Already caught up with the washing, just the dog to walk and water the garden so I am going to have a bit of free time. I'll probably try a bit of PS3 but I lost all my saved games recently and not looking forward to starting over so I will probably end up testing out the max volume on the soundbar/sub set-up – so what silly action films should be at the top of my list (I recently rewatched the latest Top Gun film so that's out). WW1 / WW2 films would be a bonus (I may end up rewatching All Quiet on the Western Front).
I have Amazon Prime, Disney+ and Netflix to choose from.
Inspire me!
Spider-Verse, Prey, & to really test the soundbar - Tron Legacy
Innocent Civilian
That new Ungentlemanly Conduct ... or some such thing on Amazon... the Guy Richie thing
Ohhh - The Meg? Worth a go?
And Ungentlemanly Conduct - god shout, that looks right up my street
John Wick or The Raid.
The Matrix for the sound system... that Propellerheads track and the sound of spent cartridges...
Expendables, all of them. Dumb and stupid, but great fun.
Meg 2 is great. It's the film that the first one promised to be and never delivered.
Plane is alright.
Cocaine Bear is interesting.
Mandy if you're in the mood for a vision quest.
Do the Verhoven
Robocop
Total Recall
Starship Troopers
Extraction (both) I’d second. Missus went away last weekend and it was Live Die Repeat for me.
Debbie does Dumbarton
Debbie does Dumbarton
That's so specific I'm tempted to see if it's real....
For mindless action, I love "The Hitmans Bodyguard:
Watched Ministry for Ungentlemanly Conduct last night, silly violent fun, certainly worth a watch but felt like it was a bit lightweight and could have been better if they'd given it a bit more grit and oomph.
Surround sound effects on Master & Commander are good
Just be careful with the pay per view!
Aliens, directors cut. 🙂
Came here to say this.
If you want to give the sound system a workout, the first five minutes of Swordfish (then watch something else).
Can't believe no one has said Commando yet.
Peak cheesy 80s action.
I could literally watch Nobody, and The Accountant over and over!!
So those!
And Equaliser (just the first).. Avengement is an alright film too (British)..
DrP
On the back of the other thread, I'm going to go watch Prey right now.
I need to watch Nobody. Only seen a few minutes of it.
Stephen King recently recommended Bone Tomahawk on the socials, not watched it myself just yet.
Bone tomahawk is great, but there's one scene that stays with you...
Action? War? Test the sound system?
Black Hawk Down.
I was surprised and annoyed at how funny & watchable The Beekeeper was.
Das boot? Greatest war film ever
Fury.
At an appropriate volume, it makes all the doors in my house rattle in their frames and the glasses dance around in the kitchen cupboards.
So halfway through Ungentlemanly Conduct - it’s okay but not really grabbing me.
FFS - so I’m going to bed so I can get up early for work - this isn’t how it’s meant to be surely?
Home Alone
There are so many good ones already mentioned.
I like the Mission Impossible movies for some solid, brain-in-neutral stupidity.
Dredd because it's awesome.
Pretty much any Michael Bay movie has some great sound system-challenging effects. But the actual films.....
Like DrP I've watched Nobody loads of times. It's great.
Kung Fu Hustle is brilliant. I was also going to suggest Bone Tomahawk (free on Prime) but let's just cut to the chase:
I went to see Nobody at the cinema as we were coming out of lockdown and was the only person in there. Loved it, need to rewatch it (other than that bus fight scene which I've watched about a hundred times)....
I was disappointed with Sisu. Like Overlord, the trailers overpromised on the actual films.
On the back of the other thread, I’m going to go watch Prey right now.
I watched it, after 40 minutes of sodding about trying to get Plex to play ball.
Great film, marred by a deus ex machina ending unless I missed something along the way.
Black hawk down. It’s relentless.
