Just found one of these wee beasties crawling across the sofa..Steatoda Nobilis.. I'm not a big fan of arachnids but elected to move it safely outside..
Mrs Yunki however is very phobic and insisted that I kill it..
I know that will upset at least one forum member but I'm kind of glad that I squished it after reading up on the little critter..
My skin is still crawling a little bit.. 😳
I hope you ate it. You should never kill anything you are not prepared to eat and never eat anything you are not prepared to kill
We get quite a lot of them in the house - none of us have been bitten yet.
I did lick the smear that was left on the patio if that helps..
my tongue is all tingly now.. 😕
I'm telling Roper on you. Then he'll send you one of his biters in a box of oranges from his grove in Spain 🙂
no need to kill and MTFU as well
It acceptable if you eat it junkyard 😉
TJ you hippy.
no need to kill and MTFU as well
No neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed
we have loads of spiders about our gaff ... i just live and let live ....
never even looked at them close enough to see what they are - there is one in the roof top corner of the room right now - wonder what it is ...
When a mature male is ready to mate you can see his pedipalps (the mouth feelers) expand into carrot shaped balloons to accommodate a sperm covered silk sheet, ready for mating
Dirty boy! Keep your sperm-covered sik sheets to yourself.
I hope your house is now infested with lots of bugs that the spider would have killed and eaten. No excuse at all to kill it, just put it outside out of the way. Anyway, it's probably mated and laid lots and lots and lots of eggs somewhere out of the way which will hatch into lots of spiderlings... 😈
Serves you right if it has.
Speaking as an arachnaphobic.
CZ, have you not been keeping up with roper's spider threads?
Those of us in the know call them "slings" 😛
Very fond of The colony of false widows we have living here.
See this thread for more info:

They are a bit unnerving when they go on the move admittedly but I tend to catch them and move them outdoors rather than squash them like a shrieking little girl.
Murderer!! 😉
To be honest, with spiders it is far easier dealing with the irrational fear than it is to kill everyone you see.
False widows are harmless enough, far more so than a bee or wasp or even a flea bite. I'd much rather be bitten by an angry false widow than a cat, dog or hamster. The article is a bit misleading too when it describes the venom, it is not medically significant even if you have a severe reaction to it. These spider hardly every bite,I've never even seen any threats from mine.
Still if you want to be evil and murdering that's up to you. Just be careful when the army of spiders find out you have killed one of their own.
They will know what you did.
They will know when you are sleeping.
😈
Don't be upset Roper, just think how many will be crawling into his gob while he's asleep
sorry little bug but I'd rather risk a bit of bad karma than the wrath of mrs yunki..
but at the risk of sounding a little bit cosmic maaaan..
I've gone through long phases of my life where I've shared the earth respectfully with my fellow creatures and I have to admit that looking back.. they were definitely the happiest times..
Karma maaan

New years day '93 after 10 days with no sleep and lots of psychedelic enhancement I hallucinated a river of spiders pouring from behind my stereo and flooding the sitting room floor..
I screamed like a girl.. 😳

Ah!! A premonition.
Warning. They always go for the soft bits first.
shame on you for killing out of fear
+1 i hope your house gets full of flies
my ex used to be proper scared of spiders, i woke one night coughing a bit and just tried to go back to sleep so as not to wake her, then thought- no this requires one big cough, when i did i coughed up a house (wolf?) spider the size of a 2pound coin. still alive. she woke up and asked what was wrong. i didnt have the heart to tell her, i just put it on the bedside table. i honestly always thought it was just an urban myth that they go into your mouth when your asleep until then.
