Seeing the Red Dead Redemption thread, made me think we need this one!
So I've been a fan of the Fallout series for the bigger part of 20 years now, and am fairly excited about the impending release of 76. Anyone else on here messing with the BETA, or have any interest?
For the record I'm still on the fence about their change of direction to Multiplayer, it could be interesting, but does seem to lose the thing that Bethesda was best at, the story unfolding through immersion with NPC's, doing things absolutely at your leisure in your own little (post apocalyptic) world.
I'm less worried about the loss of the companion (they were generally a bloody nuisance anyway) and as a PC player I never used VATS as found it was faster and more accurate to just use the sights and shoot 'FPS' style.
Thoughts?
sorry busy

I don't know whether I'm tempted by F76 or not. Fallout 3 was for me a complete watershed - the stories were just compelling. Fallout 4 less so, but still enjoyable. And the early reviews of Fallout 76 are that it has the same tapestry of micro-stories, just this time populated with other players. Soooo... I'm not sure
I managed to ninja a beta key but due to the beta being a few hours now and then I've not played it. I was excited by it but I'm not holding out much hope.
I keep seeing live gameplay from the Beta and, whilst I really want to be excited, I'm not sure how the game will stack up in the long term. The story is there and I could see a single player game (with no NPCs) being a stark, barren and chilling game, yet still compelling if done well.
But, with other players? Not sure, especially if the other players are being dicks, because some of them will be. Even paying with friends, what will the point be? High level PvP? Settlement building? Maybe robots could replace raiders, but I do wonder about that.
For me it also means buying a gaming laptop, so the bar to entry is quite high. I still want to though, possibly to play 4 as well.
I loved Fallout 1 & 2 but couldn't get into 3 and haven't played since.
Watching with interest.
I've been playing the beta on Xbox one, it's ok and I'm enjoying exploring like I did in the old ones, tis a shame there are no NPC's though. Although there aren't many players on the map you do inevitably bump into them when doing missions similarly like you would in Destiny.
Of course 50% of the players I've bumped into are dicks and just shoot you relentlessly to see if you will engage them in a battle to the death.
Plus points for me - new enemies, and slightly different older ones and the map is truly massive!

Fall out 3 was my intro into gaming at a mature age. I bought a PS3 for watching DVDs and getting some games for the kids. It was a whole new experience and it took me months to get to the end but I did enjoy it, although sometimes you actually felt like you were there! 😮
new Vegas was a disappointing experience though.
