You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Hi, I don't use Facebook - I really dislike it and so I've tried to avoid it whenever possible. Despite my insistence to the contrary, the rest of the family use Whatsapp, so I know I'm somewhat in their ecosystem, but I try and limit my exposure to it.
Until now. I came across something I wanted to buy which was only advertised on FB Marketplace, so I opened an account using a new email address. Went through fine, messaged the guy, no problems.
Went back the next day to follow up and it says "Your account has been disabled for breaching community guidelines". It then asks me to click 'review', and then it wants to confirm my ID by sending me a text.
It's then asked me to upload a photo.
But, what I'm struggling with, is what it could have done to breach the guidelines? I have sent a couple of messages - not posted, not commented on anything else. Basically it's been as locked down as possible to get.
Or is it simply a Facebook ruse to get my mobile no and photo to add to their huge facial rec databases?
So you've just set up a new FB account, with a new Email address and no profile info in order to buy something?
Doesn't feel scammy at all...
Brand new account opened specifically to buy something on Marketplace will have triggered an algorithm somewhere. Just get one of your family who are on f/book to do the deal for you if you are that paranoid 🙂
edit - yes, as per scotroutes who wins by a hair...

What? Well, how else are you supposed to do it? There must be people doing exactly the same thing all the time.
Facebook is (supposed to be) a community thing and the marketplace is to sell things between members of that community. That is how it is supposed to work. You fall outside that so have been flagged.

There are. Quite a few of them will be scammers. That doesn't mean you are, I'm sure you aren't, you have just done the same thing they do
Just like the old days on here when the classifieds used to work. Every so often someone would pop into the forum to say they had been scammed, it was almost always a classifieds only user that had been scammed and new user doing the scamming.

Ah, well, sorted in any event - it allows you to download your data, so did so and realised I'd sent a message to the wrong number (1 digit out). Sent one to the correct one and all good.
