You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I'm am member of a number of Facebook groups. Nothing too dubious - not naked knitters or dressing up like my cat in bed types things - just biking/skiing/paddling type things. Maybe because I don't post much and maybe because I'm an idiot, it was only after I posted into one of these groups about a little trip I'd had the other day did I realise all my 'normal' friends get my post in that group come up in their feed because it's made into a public group. Queue 'nervous' enquiries from elderly mother about my trip's safety (it was perfectly safe but maybe the sort of thing you'd not share with your elderly mum because of the inevitable response) and random likes and comment from friends that this sort of adventure would be completely alien to.
Maybe I'm weird, but I don't like that. There's nothing to be ashamed of in what I posted and if they by chance visited the group and saw it I'd have no issue. But I have no wish to inflict my nerdy discussions about ski binding din settings or the pleasure of a grade 3 rapid in spate on the broad church of my friends. I like a bit of life separation. It would be like your mum getting daily updates of your prattlings on here.
I think I'm right - if the group is public (even if you have to request to join) you can't stop your contributions ending up in the feed of your friends who are not in the group and have no interest in the subject of the group. Or is there some sort of hidden setting that prevents this?
As I said, maybe it's only me that cares. For now I think I'll resolve to only post into the odd group I'm in that is set to private.

The setting is at the group not you

Nope and like you its nothing secret but I don't like to broadcast and my personal feed is otherwise empty.
I'm the same - I guess I don't want other people's feed being cluttered with posts from me to a public group asking geeky questions about vehicle suspension or fishing or model railways etc.
I think (some?) groups do allow you to post as an anonymous "group member" now - assume that means it won't appear in yours and other's feeds as being a post from you?
Can't you adjust the privacy on individual posts as you create them? Been a while since I actively posted anything on Facebook so I couldn't tell you for definite.

Not these days - maybe you could in the past.....
But the post anonymous thing might work I guess. I'm not convinced some of the group admins are aware of the impact of the settings they choose.
I think I have left all public groups for this very good reason.
My Facebook feed is for me is predominantly an aggregator of hill walking / sailing / cycling forums and similar to you I have no desire to share my posts on these forums with friends and family.
There's definitely an annoymous option but I'm not sure if the group needs to enable it. I'm a member of a public group and members often post annoynmously as they dont want judgement from their friends on the controversial topic.
