I just checked Facebook and either my friends lives are as dull as mine or something is wrong.

Is there something broken or have I selected a preference/setting incorrectly by mistake?

Only seems to affect Chrome as I used Edge for the 1st time ever and FB seemed normal on there

Have you got an adblocker turned on? I had the same, resolved when I paused it.

I would say that's a vast improvement on what's usually on Facebook.

Ad blocker - yes

FB Improvement - Mostly but I want to promote the life out of my upcoming art exhibition. Did I mention that I have an Art Exhibition from May 3rd - 27th at Hanger Farm Arts Centre in Totton, near Southampton. Great coffee shop there and a fully licenced bar. All my own work and very reasonably priced.

I have the same occasionally. Chrome on W10 with Adblock Plus. It usually crashes Chrome when it happens.

The main issue with Adblock Plus is that it's one of those apps which used to be the best and is now toss. I binned it in favour of uBlock Origin years ago.

Adblock gone, uBlock added - so much faster! Thanks @Cougar

Instagram is pretty good for seeing what everyone is doing, and showing them what you're doing. My partner is using it to promote her business and connect with other businesses, and there's lots using it.

Just sign up and look for artists and galleries on there then start following them and you'll soon get followers back. Maybe also seek out followers in the wider market (ie cafes, libraries, etc).

And post the shit out of your work on there too!

Isn't it. ABP is a massive memory hog, back when I uninstalled it it was using more memory than that well-known lean application, Chrome itself.

Thanks, Cougar. Not so long ago you were supposed to be sending out warnings to people promoting software that shall not be named and now you're promoting it. Have you had a warning yet? 🙂

I was just thinking that myself Edukator as I got a ban warning a couple of weeks ago for promoting a certain browser.

I'm not promoting anything. They're already using it.

There is a difference (to my mind at least) between recommending one ad blocker over another, and promoting the usage of such on STW. Mark said as much a few years back, it's OK to discuss such technologies but it's not OK to recommend using them to deny revenue to a small independent publisher like GoFar.

However you care to slice it, this is a commercial enterprise. If no-one subscribes and everyone blocks advertising then a dozen employees are looking for work and STW disappears. If you care sufficiently for that not to happen then pick one. You pay your two quid a month subscription, or you allow advertisement delivery, or you accept that if the site goes bang you only have yourself to blame.

I got a ban warning a couple of weeks ago for promoting a certain browser.

What's a "ban warning" when it's at home?

An email stating if I mentioned the certain thing again I will be banned.

That sounds highly unlikely for a first offence. Have you had many other warnings for similar?

Was it a browser that rhymes with a form of dance music? I'm not wholly sure where that would fall within the T&Cs if so, I'd probably have escalated that question to Mark for a decision. It's an odd one.

On that note, is there a better option than Chrome?

As painful as it sounds, Edge? (They're both using the same rendering engine anyway.) It's OK once you surgically remove Bing. I use both fairly regularly for different reasons.

There's a bunch of other options but they're all variations on a theme.

Thanks for this thread. I had the same issue starting yesterday, and swapping AD+ to uBO sorted it nicely.

And I've whitelisted STW - I agree that forums I use regularly deserve the support... I've got a few more to add now!
