Is it possible to just be a part of groups on FB.  I'm in a few outdoor & biking related groups etc and I want to keep being a part of these.

BUT

I want to remove/ignore or delete all the other people, friends, family, old work colleagues etc. I just want to keep the FB groups.

Whats the best solution please?

Delete all the people from it, you are never going to stop the requests unless you block everybody, if you post nothing people might leave you alone

Create a new account and don't tell anyone.

I'm sure you can unfollow people without deleting them .

You can just move everyone to the Acquaintance category, that way they can see very little about you.

I do the same as the OP.

Limited to a few groups because “mates” want to chat through it.. OK, so that means I ignore all the freind requests and don’t post anything other than in the group chat.

Which means..

I still get all the associated freind requests, but ignore them.

You can’t turn them off, you can’t limit who you see in the request fields either.. you just have to ignore them.

But, has to be said, FB is a freind network at its basic level. Born to bring people together so that’s it’s main MO.. apart from mass data hiving obviously.

Its linked to Instagram too, so it will data hive off that as well to try and form a “profile” based on both “images” .. so don’t post anything in there either 🤪🤷‍♂️

I deleted my account completely but then was forced back into it for the local MTB group. I created A new account with my name no details grainy picture of an MTB and set everything to only me in the privacy controls just allowing enough to participate in the group. Works quite well a lot more forum like experience.

That’s what you do.

I know longer see what people had for breakfast, what their baby just shitted out or what alcoholic beverages they are so clever to consume, cos I unfollowed all the people who post such minutae. I now just see useful stuff on the occasion that I log on.

As cougar sez. Use a brand new account, don't use your full name and don't accept any friends on it. As long as people don't find you it's ok. If anyone does try and ask to friend you a polite 'i only use this for groups' is just fine

In any case most people just seem to use it to promote their pet businesses these days so it's not as much of a problem as it used to be
