So when it does get started what odds can we get on Latifi binning it within a lap! 🤣🤣

You might end up having to pay the bookie for that one lol

There's usually carnage in the wet at Monaco. It's not the place to get a sudden attack of the Yips when trying to thread an F1 car around at the best of times.

Latifi man FFS! “The car just didn’t turn”
Aye? It’s called understeer, a concept (as a racing driver) I thought you’d be familiar with!

Stroll has pitted twice already, am guessing that he swapped to inters and then back again? It's not going to be his weekend.

Stroll has pitted twice already

He got a puncture on lap 1 or 2 after brushing the barriers.

Something happened with Ocon / Hamilton as well but it was off camera. There was a "causing a collision" flag popped up on screen then both drivers pitted.

Russell is going well!

Not sure a car should break up as that Haas did. Hit didn’t look that big.

My heart sank when I saw the back of Mick’s Haas there. Glad he’s ok as it was a minute before you heard from him.

Pretty sure they're designed to break up like that for safety reasons.

Guess it's a combination of new regs and tec Pro barriers, but yes didn't look like a huge impact did it (again maybe because of tec pro).

Hang on why has the race been red flagged?! I switched over to the Giro during the SC bit and when I switched back, it was red flag.

WTAF?

Edit: I mean, I saw the Haas crash but it looked like that was all being sorted under SC?

Shouldn't that be any lapped cars? Then a roll of the dice to work out which cars that'll actually be?

The racing has been amazing

Behind the slower running Alonso, it's just a procession. No-one can overtake. Alonso is just acting like a Virtual Safety Car. 🙄

I know Monaco is iconic but it's only been amazing because of rain, tyre choices, and drivers earning their corn trying to keep the cars out of the barriers. What's happening now is a bit dull. With all the money, they need to have sprinklers on the course.

From 7th to 18th is hardly separated by anything. They should black flag Alonso for being too slow!

See this is just shit now. There's a race of 5 cars. Then a traffic jam.

Even the "race" of 5 cars is pretty dull.

I just don't understand how it can be considered exciting, when a driver can back off by 3+ seconds a lap and still not have to worry about being overtaken. All the other incident, strategy and faux jeopardy is meant to be a bonus to the race, when the race is nothing but a procession, then all the extra bits are pointless.

In fact, in the past 10 years, the total number of overtakes, 101, is far less than the Chinese Grand Prix achieved in a single race in 2016, with 170.

I may have missed this year’s overtake. Remind me. Alonso audition for next year’s safety car was a low point. It also denied his team the chance for a point.

Well deserved win for Checo as was clearly faster of the RB's. Still amazed at how they race around in the wet and not bin it at Monaco ( except schumi and nearly Sainz). Russell still showing that the Mercedes is the third fastest car on the grid

If you are watching Monaco for overtaking you're wasting your time. You watch it for the drama, which todays race provided plenty of. Some years it's as boring as hell, some years it explodes into an action packed crash-fest.

Well done Checo - go and chase Max down now and give Karen a real headache! 🙂

Indeed. Race decided on a pit stop. Like the world championship last season then ;-). And yes I’d love Checo to challenge max, but that didn’t work out so well last week.

Reasonably entertaining for a change that one. Dunno if Alonso was trolling Hamilton or what as he charged off and set a fastest lap after being a rolling roadblock for a while. Chuffed for Perez

Top fact: if they hadn't forced Checo to give 1st place to Verstappen in Spain, he'd be ahead of Leclerc and on equal points with Verstappen. Game on!!!

Verstappen knows this and it was reflected in his general mojo this weekend. Could be the battle to watch this season and it will be interesting to see how RB handle the situation because I don't see Checo backing down next time.

"Let them race", as they say......

I mean… if it gets to the point where Red Bull have to put their weight behind Perez, that would be glorious to watch. It’d be like seeing Ferrari having to back Eddie Irvine over Schumacher without a broken leg, but with the added bonus of watching the expression on Jos’s face just before his head explodes.

Ah, the hatred for verstappen is still in full effect 😂

He’s the number 1, red bull are focused on driver and constructor championships, so doing as expected, team orders isn’t a new thing, especially in this day and age where cars aren’t suddenly regenerated every race.

RB will just add a second to Perez's pitstop or find another way to slow the number2 driver. The swap order earlier in the season highlighted.that they have a number 1 and 2 driver and that's how they'll finish.as long as they are both in it at the end of the race.
Perez will throw a wobbler if he's near contention late season and verstappen will just demand the place/win.

Given their respective positions in the WDC, I assume that Hamilton is the No 2 driver for Mercedes now? I'm sure he'll be only too happy to help Russell in his quest and there will be no toy/pram incidents between now and Abu Dhabi in November.

Hamilton to chuck it at the end of the year. Checo activates a clause in his (ink still wet) new contract to jump to Mercedes just as they have the car sorted and smash them all.

You read it here first.

Edit: passes Max several times, gives him the finger each time. Gives Horner the finger from the podium on several occasions. Also fingers ginger spice repeatedly

I'm still old enough to remember a botched Ferrari pitstop that threw away Irvine's chances of a WDC in 1999- 48 seconds to find a tyre that had been "misplaced". Way to go Maranello.

Right now I feel quite sorry for Leclerc, he cannot catch a break at his home GP.

Very true.

It always makes me wonder what they told the number 2 driver when they signed him up- were they honest and upfront, or shady deceptive? Judging by the look on Perez's face in Spain I'm gonna say the latter

Red Bull have a history of not being able to deal with 2 equal driver's, remember the Vettel/Webber or Verstappen/Riccardo partnerships, I won't be surprised to see the same again.

Would love to see Perez win thee WDC if only to give the rest of the team a coronary.

They're not really equal drivers though, and there's a long way to go in this season with Ferrari breathing down their neck, if Verstappen hadn't had two DNF's he'd be further ahead, Red Bull are trying to get as much of a buffer just now where they have the slight edge, and favouring the better driver where they can, i don't think there's a team out there that wouldn't be doing that as we're not even a third of the way through the season.

Hamilton and Russell are completely different, Mercedes are scrambling to work out what to do, and look like they're doing separate things on each driver/car at times, which again seems logical, the fact that Hamilton is such a championship focused driver probably doesn't help him, he's not really built for scrapping for points all year round, the guy probably entered this season thinking more of the same, and then sees RB pulling away, and also Ferrari passing them, can't be easy.

To be fair to Red Bull, they've always favoured drivers who they can see are the faster of the two. In this case, Perez outqualified Max and was the only Red Bull driver who was going to win that race. The only option they had to increase Max's points was to let Sainz win and hand second place to Max. No team would do that this early in a season. All that Max has to do to retain favoured status is outqualify Perez.

I wonder if the porpoising is being used a a ploy now to get the FIA to allow active suspension again.

I’d be for it - these new cars look rubbish bobbing down a straight.

And if they allow active suspension they'll have to increase the cost cap, giving the (big budget) teams a chance to look for more than they need.

The lack of posts in this thread compared to previous years makes me think we’re not overly impressed with the new cars.

They just look a bit meh on track, and lack the snappiness of previous years cars.

Didn’t think I’d miss the arse-in-the-air cars but I kind of do! 😀
