For me, I don’t get it.
To me it appears to be justifying having a laugh/holiday in nice parts of the world in concept vehicles that they are desperately trying to justify as Eco
After 1 lap it got a bit dull too, and the races were pointless as too dusty to call it racing.
The dust thing caught the organisers out, apparently it was nowhere near as bad when they visited previously. However the rest of it.......
Just catching up on the Semi Final but seems OK so far.
Thought this was a thread about who could pop the most party pills. Is disappointed...
Is this the eco-friendly car race where they travel en masses with loads of support vehicles and fly all over the world to remote places to eat around and ruin the places in the name of suggesting these are the way forward to save the planet?
Didn't know it was on...
i think they dropped a clanger having the first race in the desert where as Kristofferson said "after the third corner it's not really a race anymore". The Gridplay thing just makes the format more confusing.
Miss.
A bit crap.
But I don't understand the hate for it being electric? So the series is no more green than the Dakar. Big woop, it's an advert for electric cars. In the same way the Dakar is an advert for small capacity efficient commuter motorbikes.......... wait no it's not, it's pedaling Africa Twins to middle-aged men who are convinced that some aluminum panniers will make everyone think they've been on an around the world adventure, not just arrived at the office a bit sweaty and should probably shower.
The carbon footprint for this race series must be massive no? They would be doing more good by not bothering.
Miss.
Have you read actually there Enviromental statement?
These principles all support Extreme E’s mission to inspire people, communities and governments in our race locations and beyond, to raise their climate ambition in a united effort to limit global warming to 1.5oC by 2030.
Extreme E has also committed to its goal of becoming carbon neutral by the end of its first season.
though who the **** uses a sideway scrolling page?
Committed to and achieving are two different things. This is a vanity project for all involved, nothing more.
Its entertainment, whether or not it has a climate impact is going to be lost to the fact that we are way past fixing the problem. So, just enjoy watching it, to tune in to something you do like.
We have left the last chance saloon, so quit winging and enjoy what's left.
unwatchable nonsense.
Rosbergs involved in it so I’m out!
But I don’t understand the hate for it being electric?
I don’t think anyone grudges the electric part - but the 10 mile range, and how are they charging in the middle of nowhere anyway? (Genuinely not seen the answer to the second part)
Entertainment rather than motor racing.
Far too much dust - after the first corner it was game over.
Too many gimmicks - command centre, did that really add anything?
Commentators trying to hard to make it sound exciting.
Not for me.....
"As well as its overall mission, Extreme E is committed to having a net-zero carbon footprint by the end of its first season, which means offsetting what it cannot avoid via ALLCOT certificated global programmes."
I'm no expert, but surely the only way to "offset" burning fossil fuels is to plant trees AND turn them back into fossil deposits?? Otherwise whatever the trees soaks up gets released again when it dies.
This seems suspiciously like a way of justifying carrying on as normal to me.
And I see Nigel Farage is getting involved with selling this offsetting snake oil now too.
Some of it is really clever tech, but most of it just left me asking why?
Like others have said - massive vanity project. Even the guff the presenters were scripted to say at the start of the programme had me reaching for the sick bucket. Shipping drivers / teams / kit half way around the world will not help stop the ice caps melting, or plastics polluting the oceans.
There are far better ways motorsport can push its green credentials. This isnt it.
I’m no expert, but surely the only way to “offset” burning fossil fuels is to plant trees AND turn them back into fossil deposits??
Peat bogs and tundra do the same, as does a more sophisticated carbon capture but non mitigate the green washing going on here
We have left the last chance saloon, so quit winging and enjoy what’s left.
How long you reckon, days or weeks?
3am ITV2 crap
where they travel en masses with loads of support vehicles and fly all over the world
Described like that you make it sound a lot like a bicycle race 🙂

Big bike events also have me moaning about the carbon footprint and excessive travel, etc. - despite it being my 'sport'...seems massively wasteful as well.
However, none seem to be going to far off places and bringing a large city with them to support something that is apparently meant to be a benefit to the environment and planet - it just doesn't seem to sit well with me based on that as it clearly isn't.
Knob cheese of the thrush infested smelliest order.
No issue with a an electric wannabe Dakar-lite race series but to sugarcoat is with green wash is pretty despicable.
It doesn't highlight the plight of the world's most fragile locations - it merely insights it's abuse. And carbon offsetting is just a rich man's excuse to continue to abuse at will.
I hope with time and hindsight the 'names' that are involved are embarrassed by their association.
