After watching a BBC article about Extreme E my old and cynical self is thinking this must be a mickey take.
A big ship ferrying cars around the world !Is it being propelled by wind power ?
Are all the drivers and back up staff pedalling peleton style between the different venues ? I couldn't see much bamboo or ethically sourced wood in the cars construction.
Please someone enlighten me and tell me that Lewis Hamilton is the new David Attenborough.

I think it's more along the lines of helping develop electric technology and promoting the idea. I mean, you don't see many people making oh-so-funny milk float jokes about electric cars since Tesla came along with 0-60 in 2 seconds, do you? Although that point seems to have been made and accepted now, at least in the UK.

I'm not saying it's actually benefitting anyone, but that's the pretext.

"Baby Steps" innit, the world ultimately needs to wean us apes off of motorised private transport and motorsport in general...

But you can't expect people to go cold turkey, the plebs would be up in arms if the couldn't watch the fabulously wealth spunk millions on wheeled toys and then spunk further millions to go play with them in various picturesque locations around the globe...

So yeah, they're burning a few less hydrocarbons (directly), what more do you want?

I think they are "raising awareness".

I don't know about anyone else, but I'd never heard of electricity or climate change until I saw Extreme E.

Lets save the planet using smoke and mirrors 😉

And here you are talking about it on social media.

Yes I saw the tv news about it and thought the irony meter was off the scale - let's sail our big ship (bunker oil?) around the world full of IC support-vehicles so that a handful of multi millionaires from monte carlo can razz enlarged RC e-buggies around climate-threatened locations. Presumably the charging of the cars is powered by oil generators in these remote locations too.

Any corporation with a modicum of environmental responsibility would shy away from the sponsorship of this you'd think.

I think ravers necking pills in the 90s probably saw more benefit to the planet.

I don’t think they’d be pedalling peloton style - they wouldn’t get very far!!😉

Not unless David has suddenly turned into a giant bellend when I wasn't looking.

Yes, but,

https://aeon.co/ideas/if-nascar-embraced-electric-cars-it-could-change-the-world

An article along those lines I was reading only last week. Motorsport is bad for the planet as are pretty much all products and the TDF, EWC and WC DH is bad for the planet in the same way as the travel related to F1. But without something to wean people off a love of the sound of revving ICE cars...?

Do we accept more CO2 cost now to save (a lot?) more in future?

My take is that it's a business like TDF and F1 etc. People will want to do things to make money and others buy things to show their status and that's the problem. The impact of Formula E vs people getting new cars on lease every 3 years, etc. Environment or economy, we all choose and influence that one.

And your qualification of Lewis Hamilton as a giant bellend is...?
