Time for a new bar light. My Joystick has been great for many years, so I’m tempted by another exposure.
It’ll be used off road, and on road too - mostly quiet (and often poorly-surfaced) Cotswolds lanes.
So a road-focused Strada and compromise the off road performance with the roadie beam pattern, or the Toro and turn it down when on road?
Any user experience of the beam patter s in real world riding?
I have both and I don't think the Strada would cut it for me off-road, though I haven't tried. It's just that bit dimmer than the Toro.
Haven't used the Toro on road though, as I already had the Strada.
Strada fine for me off road
I’ve owned both but not those versions, currently just have the toro.
Reason I picked it is that whilst they have around the same battery performance the toro will give you higher lumens for a shorter period, but the same lumens as the strada for long bike rides on road. So you get the best of both worlds with the toro.
Just bought a Toro while having exactly that debate with myself!
Mostly ride on road (often little Peak District back lanes, poorly surfaced, unlit etc) with a little bit of off-road so I was considering the Strada as a potential cross-over for commuting use too.
In the end the extra power of the Toro swung it for me and using the programme modes I can find a decent mid way point for turning it to minimum on busier roads.
Toro Mk10 user here, the 36h setting is perfect for road - use the adjustment on the bracket to aim slightly towards the nearside, not been flashed by any drivers yet. Plenty of power when you need it.
I use a six pack on and off road,
I set it to the 36h setting on road, i can still see but don’t get flashed.
just got a Toro mk11 for commuting on Cotswolds lanes, so far used it once. It works, it is far brighter than I need if I use the high settings. However having lots of light means I can spot the potholes, gravel, fallen branches, etc.
A very ,minor point, it has lots of modes, however I can see very few being used once I figure out which make sense.
Cycle to work made the price a little more acceptable.
