On the descent from Tinker's Tower into Jackson Bridge (Meal Hill?) there is a cable which was obviously once buried but is now exposed for much of the way. Anyone know what it is?

there was one on the SDW near Devils Dyke for a few years - was about an inch across.

Gradually became more and more exposed, started fraying and it looked like their were about 40 smaller wires inside the outer case.

There's a big telecoms mast nearby and I assumed it was a throwback to when that was on a wired connection - any transmission masts nearby?

Transmission masts have wired connections, the transmitted data has to go somewhere

Transmitted Data goes out from the aerial it's the received data that may use a cable. 😉

Yeah I've wondered what that was when I'm hopping and skipping down there.

There is a comms tower at the top.
