Without get bogged down into a discussion on the B word I have the opportunity to sell something (professionally) to a buyer in Luxembourg. I've done this before without issue but this will be my first sale into Europe post you-know-what. I'm a one man band and under the threshold for VAT so don't add that to UK sales and it will be educational/museum equipment if that makes a difference. It'll be about £7k. Anyone know what sort of extra fees either me or the buyer will need to pay? Or how would I go about finding out? I found this page with zero useful information: https://www.great.gov.uk/markets/luxembourg/ that links to this page with information overload https://www.check-duties-customs-exporting-goods.service.gov.uk/overview?d=LU

You won't have fees for export as far as I'm aware other than a bit of paperwork for the customs forms.

The buyer may have vat / duty & fees on the item depending on Luxembourg's rules. They will also have vat on the carriage fees so if the carriage is expensive that can make a significant difference.

Do you know aht, if any commodity code they should be travelling under, this will be your first port of call. At that point you can then check if there are any export licnses required, such as if they fall into pre-cursor goods, or possibly dual use items (check SPIRE for that - happy to help as i have access).

Then assuming no issues shipping out, next thing is for the import. It will need a T1 doc at minimum, stating the commodity codes etc - this will then need the import version for Luxembourg checking as you did for exporting for the UK.

If you know the commodity code, let me know and i'll dig around.

cheers Nick,

https://www.trade-tariff.service.gov.uk/commodities/9023001000#export

it falls under dual use control. SPIRE in this case can tell you if you need to apply for a license to export. I'll have a look as it's a pain to use..

hmm that's weird last post has gone.

anyway, you can also use https://www.ecochecker.trade.gov.uk/spirefox5live/fox/spire/
which you don't need to be set up for to help check.

If you don't check these things, they could get held at port and cost you money, so worth being diligent.
