Is there a piece of equipment available that can generate labels with an expiry date/time a set distance in the future?
For example push a button and a label comes off stating use before date/time where the date/time is always 6hrs ahead of the time you push the button
I’ve been Googling but I can’t find anything. Years ago I had an electronic time stamp that could do this (with an ink pad) but I can’t find anything similar.
You can get thermal printers quite cheaply (work similar to a till printer) that take approx 2" wide s/a labels. If you get one that connects to a PC I'm sure there will be a software package that can generate the label for you, failing that there are loads of programmers on here who could do it in the form of a python script etc.
If you want something dead simple where you literally just press a button, something like this https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/mini-thermal-printer?variant=28412531207¤cy=GBP&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=google+shopping?utm_source=google&utm_medium=surfaces&utm_campaign=shopping&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIiauNlcmd7QIV34BQBh1aMwheEAQYBSABEgLB5fD_BwE
hooked up to a Raspberry Pi or Arduino would do the job. Likewise, plenty on here who could put it together for you. Is there a budget for this? 😃
Also just being nosey what is the product that only has a 6 hr shelf life?
They're very common in the food production world, different options, types, costs etc but not likely to be less than a couple of k at the cheapest.
Thanks all
Unless something leaps out, I’ll likely go with the thermal label printer hooked up to a simple Excel ‘refresh and print’ macro using the Now function. A bit rough and ready but simple enough
Zippy- thanks but I need it to update automatically each time a label is produced, otherwise it’s riskier than using a clock set +6hr and handwriting
