I used Expedia to book a hotel on Tuesday night in Paris (as a result of Eurostar being cancelled). Got to the hotel and every room was occupied. Expedia were useless.
Avoid like the plague.
They are one of the major booking companies. I use them all the time, have done since the early days, 2001 ish iirc. Always been exactly what I wanted, never had an issue.
No issues here when I use them rarely or their sibling company hotels.com (frequently). They can be very generous with cash back too on quidco and other sites, sometimes around 10% dependent on whether it's a hotel, package, flight etc (mostly hotels for me). Having said that I've never had to deal with customer service, BUT where I know it would be immense hassle otherwise, I do make a point of calling some hotels ahead of time to ensure they have my booking.
We've used Expedia the last two years for Whistler and price-wise, they are great. However, I would recommend confirming any hotel booking with the hotel as our room turned out not be as large as we were led to believe. Expedia wouldn't change it but I spoke directly to the hotel in Canada, via Skype, and they sorted everything out.
