Considering doing something different for a few years - any suggestion on a good place to start to look for contract/jobs abroad? Finance sector.
Depends totally on where you want to look. I would start with specific countries. Also have a look to see which headhunters operate globally (Whitehead Mann, Principal Search come to mind) and/or in the specific market/region you are looking at. As a fellow finance sector person who's worked abroad a bit (US and Singapore) I can highly recommend it. Good luck.
There are companies all over Africa just crying out for a decent, trustworthy expat accountant. If you choose somewhere half-decent you can earn a good package and have a hell of a good time. Botswana and Zambia are nice and are happening places at the moment.
