I've been trying to get some bar end mirrors to fit my new Renthal bars atop my Suzuki GSX750 motorcycle.

The problem you have with Renthal bars, being ally, is that they have an internal dia of 14mm on a standard 22mm handlebar due to increased wall thickness, which is a fair bit smaller than the more regular 19mm (I think) on a steel bar.

I've got some bar-end mirrors similar to these...

... which use an expanding bolt, similar to a quill stem on a bicycle. The trouble I have is that it's too big, designed for steel bars and I have no idea what these fittings are even called in order to find a 14mm one.
Anyone know what these fittings might be called? Surely they must be available on their own...

Of course, I could try to grind my fitting down, but it's not the easiest thing to hold being so small and with angles on it.
I've also tried expanding wall fixings but these bar mirrors use an M6 bolt and seemingly you can only get these shield anchors up to 12mm with an M6 bolt, which means they don't expand enough inside the bar.
Again, yes I could use shims I guess but it's all a bit ghetto and I'd rather have something I can just whip off and on should I need to.

A lot of the mirrors you get will sometimes come with 2 slotted sleeves as seen below, one to cover a range of internal dia bar sizes... Mine would be the smaller sleeve.

...but mine didn't come with them, but just the quill stem sorta looking ones that were too big, hence why I'm after buying some.

So does anyone happen to know what they're called so that I can do a better search?
Cheers.

Could you do a half and half bodge?

Machine the mirror sleave Dia down a bit and put an expanding reamer down the bars.

Hmmm, I'd rather not ream down the wall thickness, considering I'm holding on to it at 70mph and that. 🙂

How much could you play with the thickness of the mirror sleave then.

Oh,and I meant only reaming a wee bit in to the bars, still room to hang on 😉

Cheers for replying. I've pm'd you Kayla1

I think reaming the bar and trying to grind the insert down would just complicate things further.

I guess I could just find some 14mm dia tube with a 6mm ish internal dia, cut it in two at 45 degrees and that would do the same thing.

However, I can't believe you can't just buy these bits for next to nothing somewhere.

No idea what they're called! 😁

Hiya,

Have a look for m6 rubber 'rawlnuts', they're an expanding rubber anchor that pulls up from the bottom and expands to fill the hole. They'll also dampen out any vibrations. I've used them before for this on other bikes.

I'll see what we have at work tomorrow and let you know.

Shout out Kayla1, and Projection-racing.com!

She very kindly sent me some bar ends that had the right 14mm expanding rubber inside with an m6 bolt which I was able to use in the existing mirrors.

I still had to grind away some of the mirror plug. It's supposed to fit this size too. Serves me right for buying on the cheap I suppose 🤔

Sorted for mirrors now, but still don't know what the expanding widget fittings are called...
