I'm doing a lot of training at the moment for an Ironman in the summer. As such I'm doing plenty swimming, turbo work & running.
I am concious I need to work on my core more. However my time is getting pretty stretched so not sure I can feasibly get another gym session in without ending up single.
It's been suggested that I use an exercise ball whilst working from home 1/2 days a week.
Has anyone any experience of using one? wit it being at home I could feasibly build up to using it all day if necessary...
Cheers,
We used to have them in the office where I worked once. Most people alternated between the balls and chairs, but a few diehards used them all day.
I'm sitting on one at the moment. The firmness of the ball changes noticeably with atmospheric pressure, it's become oval with regular use, otherwise it's OK. I haven't got a six pack.
I thought it said 'Exercise balls ON office chairs' I was ready to go full Mary Whitehouse 😳 (Note to self, get new specs)
I do it at home sometimes while on the net. I wouldn't trust people not to kick it at my place (i'm the only sane one)
The guy next to me used to use one. One day it popped with him on it. It was ****ing hilarious!!
Fine until you come back from your Friday lunchtime trip to the pub.
I believe there was a study that found they provided no benefit in core strength.
I used one for about six months as a chair at desk... Unintended negative consequence was that I moved my legs around (wider apart etc) as I was moving on the ball and believe it ended up putting unnatural stress on my upperlegs, groin, hips etc....maybe just me not being focused on the posture but when you're on it for a whole day its easy to forget because it is wobbling unlike a normal chair... I stopped using it...
If its core strength you're after buy one of those small wheels and do ab rollouts for 5 minutes a day.
Get a space hopper.
careful with the hot drinks
A client I visit uses them and they're great for an hour or so.
Our first-born had terrible colic and needed to be bounced almost constantly for the first 6 months of his life. A large exercise ball saved our lives and gave me thighs like a roadie.
Proper office chars are adjustable for a reason. What'll you do re. height adjustment? Cut a little of the desk legs?
Just remember they act as an amplifier for farts rather than muffle them like a chair can 😳 😆
I had one at uni from where I ate pizza and drank beer, watched snooker, and lived the life of a slob.
It didn't improve my core for some reason!
I'm also sat on an exercise ball as I type, been using it for ages. Wouldn't say my core is stronger but my posture is better.
If you're after an ab-roller, they're on offer in Lidl atm, around a fiver.
Do ab rollers work? I assumed they were informercial garbage?
Do ab rollers work? I assumed they were informercial garbage?
Yes, yes they do.
