The other half has just got in from taking the kids to the dentist, she put the car in a private carpark and went to get change from a newsagents 150yds away , by the time she got back there was a ticket on the windscreen from LPS ltd. She has come home a little upset as the charges are a bit extreme £60 or £40 if paid within 28 days.

Is this one of the companies you just ignore?

Your advice or experiance would be great

Pop back and have a look for signs, contact the land owner and see if that company are authorised to issue fines for their land etc.

Always remember as a starting point that a private company can't "fine" you. Pepipoo is a good place for detailed advice if you need it. But even if a landowner had authorised another company to fine people they still couldn't fine you. It has to be a valid contractual claim, and that's highly unlikely

Are they being clever with their wording?

This is the actual wording from the reverse of the ticket.

Late payments,
Failure to pay the parking charge within 28 days from the date of the issue will result in your case being transferred to our recovery department where your vehicle licensing details will be obtained from the DVLA and a formal demand sent to the vehicle owner. If payment is still nor received within 14 days of this letter, solicitors will be instructed and additional administrative and court costs may be incurred.

Lawful issue
This parking charge has been lawfully issued and the collection procedure will be processed in accordance with the administration of justice act 1970

Are they trying to bamboozle the masses with clever wording?

Yup. The people that loiter around that forum are phenomenally helpful (whilst generally knowing what they're talking about as well!)
