I want to create a spreadsheet on my computer and access it via my phone. I want to tick a box or press a button or something, and have the current date inserted into a cell. Is this possible?

It's for creating a schedule of gym workouts and logging when I've done that particular one.

I'm sure doable with radio buttons etc. But why not a specific app with csv export capability such as

Cos have already done the spreadsheet and I know it's what I want, I don't want to have to fart about trawling through endless apps that aren't quite right and have ads and what not.

In which case since you are going to be changing a dynamic TODAY() to a static value [DATE] you will probably need to use vba with a radio button.

Hmm. Looks like I can create buttons and draw them wherever I want on the screen - but I want a button inside a cell, so there can be list of them - not just drawn randomly on the screen.

Yes. I haven't worked in Excel for ages so you'll have to have a Google
