You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
So my local electrical shop has a heavily discounted Sony TV that I've had my eye on for some time, but it's an ex-display model. It will come with a 5yr warranty - but would you / should I buy it?
Edit - my current TV is 13 years old, I'm not buying just because it's cheap (ish)
no. because there's no way you could, with 100% confidence, say your TV has never shown "Mrs Brown's boys" or "GB news".
DrP
I bought an ex display Samsung 43 LED in 2016. It was replaced by Sky Glass a year ago, when I put it up for sale for £60. Another one wanted it hence it’s still here right in front of me now acting as my monitor in my home office.
My personal preference is tracking down a reliable customer returns seller on ebay, I found a returned OLED, ebay account had the same address as the Panasonic outlet. 48" last years model for £600 less than last years retail and about £800 less than the (effectively same product) 2023 screen.
I've only had it 2 months, but it was flawless and seems to work perfectly.
I would if it was from a company like Richer sounds , but it would need to be a BIG discount if its the likes of Currys etc where a lot of tire kickers might have had their sticky mitts all over it.
Open box maybe, ex display no. That's an awful lot of "on time" at maximum brightness you're getting.
as long as there's no dead pixels (which as it's a display model it probably won't) I can't see what the problem is.
Just ask to play with the smart interface to see if you like it and if it works glitch-free, will also make sure they have the remote

Errm...
Exhibit A:
Ex Display TVs – Would you buy one?
Absolutely. I bought one that was massively discounted because of a fault with the volume control... I couldn't turn it down
