Good have done it on the quiet. This way Smuggin's little show gets more publicity.

Of more import, is the fact Mr McGregor seems to be morphing into Boy George.

In response to McGregor's decision, Morgan tweeted: "Sorry to hear that @mcgregor_ewan - you should be big enough to allow people different political opinions. You're just an actor after all."

Whereas Piers is the host of a breakfast show, so his opinion is obviously far more valid 🙄

Morgan's co-presenter Susanna Reid tweeted: "Such a shame. Challenge views where there's difference. Would have liked to see that debate on air - it's an important one. #WomensMarch."

Maybe Ewan would rather have been there to talk about his film? He is just an actor after all.

Or perhaps he felt that two men debating the legitimacy of the the Women's March might be a bit pathetic.

I saw the original interview and I'm amazed that Morgan is still in a job , unless its car crash TV and people watch to see the histrionics and the look on Susanna Reid's face when he makes a dick of himself

I would level the same at Steve Wright, Vanessa Feltz and Jeremy Vine on R2... Incredible levels of unwitting bigotry and sh*t stirring.

Apparently he didn't come on and debate it because he's not 'a real man', according to Morgan.

So much enlightenment on gender issues from Piers.

Susanna needs the dosh, but she should really step aside and allow the Morgan/Katie Hopkins dream team to assemble.

Hadn't thought of that. 😀

I wonder who will be the first one to use the 'but I'm just an actor' response when asked anything which isn't about their new film or show?

Indeed, you'd think they might have found at least one woman for the photo op.

People like PM are immune to reason and just want to 'debate' so they can foghorn their bad ideas at someone.

It is true, Ewan M is just an actor, in the same vein, Piers M is just a journalist, neither of them have the absolute answer to anything, either is though allowed an opinion. Trouble in this day and age is that their opinions go far further than they should. In our celebrity deity driven society, I would imagine more people would trust Ewan M than their local MP. Sad times. TBH, best thing is not to watch the program, then ££££ lost through lower viewing figures would drive change.

He has supported Unicef since his motorbike adventure, The Long Way Round, in 2004 and has continued to advocate for children ever since.

Ewan’s support for refugee children

In 2016, Ewan travelled to northern Iraq to see how the conflicts sweeping across Iraq and Syria are devastating children’s lives. During his visit, he met with families in the Debaga camp who have escaped brutal violence currently taking place in areas surrounding Mosul in the north of the country. Among them was a girl called Mirna, with whom Ewan immediately bonded.

“Mirna told me how her family slept in a disused, half-constructed shopping mall for over a year,” Ewan said. “She introduced me to the reality of what that’s like. It’s easy to be baffled by the figures—28 million children are displaced. It’s so difficult to imagine, it’s impossible to comprehend, but when I think that, I think of Mirna. She’s one of them.”

We are working to protect children across Iraq and Syria, delivering life-saving food, clean water and vaccines, as well as providing education and psychological support.

I know who's opinion I would trust a bit more

The underlying irony being that the original row was about a woman talking about women's voices being silenced, only to shouted over and harangued by Morgan and that it has now reverted to willy waving between Morgan and Mgregor [ having seen some of his early films my money is on Mcgregor ]

McGregor has enough of a career that he can decide who he has to spend time with, and face it, who wants to spend time with Morgan.
And whoever up there ???? described Morgan as a journalist, please don't, it insults real journalists.

I doubt Ewan not appears on GMB will make much of a difference to the box office taskings for T2 anyway.
I must admit if I was him being interviewed by Piers, I'd be talking through gritted teeth whilst being physically restrained.

As for whether there really are 'rampant feminists' - what do we think? I've met a couple I would describe as 'dramatic' but not 'rampant'.

He certainly had a point.

It's the Daily Wail.

However, Roman Polanski is a convicted pedophile and McGregor did say "he’s an old man who I’m incredibly fond of". So it could be true he loves a pedophile.

Roman Polanski is a convicted pedophile

Given the victim was 13 years old then he was more likely a hebephile.

You're right.

I have pointed out the misuse of the term on here before. I was just using it as the word as it is used today.

However, from wiki,

criteria for pedophilia extend the cut-off point for prepubescence to age 13.

Donald Trump once said of (billionaire paedophile/hebephile) Jeffrey Epstein:

"I've known Jeff for fifteen years. Terrific guy,'' Trump booms from a speakerphone. "He's a lot of fun to be with. It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side. No doubt about it -- Jeffrey enjoys his social life."

Oddly I didn't see the Daily Mail queuing up to publish that.

Though they did recently criticise Bill Clinton's relationship with Epstein.

http://www.****/news/article-3825882/The-cozy-relationship-billionaire-Jeffrey-Epstein-Bill-Clinton-flew-pedophile-s-private-jet-praised-insights-generosity-detailed-new-book-James-Patterson.html

It's almost like they have some kind of agenda there.

So at what point do you decide that you dislike somebody's views so much that you won't go on a chat show hosted by them ? I would have thought that it was an excellent opportunity for McGregor to engage with Piers Morgan and try to get his point across . That would be more interesting than the squillions of interviews where people are just fed easy opportunities for self promotion .

I quite happily debate things with people who's views differ from my own. Plenty of coleagues and friends with right of center viewpoints (im a lefty).

None of them are obnoxious asshats who's reaponse to being empty chaired for those reasons is to go off on an ad homien rant on twitter.

If enough celebs did this he'd be fired as there'd be no show.

And yes, that second paragaph is hypocrisy.

Love the guy. Speaks his mind.

Why is this seen as such a great virtue? After all it's what just about all of us do, isn't?

I mean, what is the alternative? Who doesn't speak their mind? And why does it seem even more admirable when the person in question is saying hateful things?

Would have been classier for EM to just not do the show once he realised who the host was and not feel the need to tweet about it. Treat the public with some intelligence and draw their own opinion about why he was a no show and just tell the show's management why you made the decision. Persuade your celeb friends to do the same until his role is seen as a hindrance not a positive.

But celebs refusing to do their contractual PR work because they find the vessel (Morgan in this case) odious seems pretty reasonable to me. McGregor's USP is his relaxed bon ami persona and doing that with someone you think is a bellend is not going to happen. Similarly taking on someone like Morgan with intransigent views is not a debate just a slanging match.

It's just a luuvie spat ... nothing more. Both took an opportunity to promote their agendas. It's not like Trainspoting 2 needs any more promotion ... is it.

There is something odd about the two faced approach of the acting industry to Polanski. He drugged a 13 year old and then anally raped her ... and he was late 40s , she was 13.
It is straight child abuse ... and well documented.
Whoopi Goldberg famously said it wasn't "rape rape" - because the girls mum had let her go to Polanski's house !!
So Polanski is a nice guy ... so what. He is a child abuser ... Ewan might want to re-examine his motels re his Unicef position.

Lets not let the facts get in the way of "Ewan condones bum rape of 13 year old girls" hysteria.

His response to a question in an interview was (paraphrased) 'What, Roman's a rapist? But he always seemed like such a nice guy. His poor kids and family'.

Not, 'Phwoaarrrrr, 13year old ass, who wouldn't, good on him'.

I see some of the usual twaddle has surfaced :/

Morgan is an odious little sphincter who's claims to fame ought to be his courtroom convictions.

The Headline he's using in the Mail "PIERS MORGAN: Memo to anyone who voted for Trump or Brexit - pedophile-loving hypocrite Ewan McGregor holds you in utter contempt. So why on earth would you want to see any of his movies ever again?" shows what a petty and unpleasant goit he is and also further illustrates the enboldenment of the alt-right [not-right] news corporations.... STW is ahead of the curve on this, the DailyHeil is hate speech and nothing more.

I don't think for a moment that Ewan is pro child abuse and haven't suggested such.
My point was that the acting profession seems to have a slightly skewed view of their own.
TBH , yesterdays spat was just handbags ... neither came out of it well.

Luuvies and artists preaching to the masses is fine ... as long as they accept the backlash. Being in trainspotting doesn't mean your view on the EU or Trump is more important than anyone else.

Morgan is a dick, who does things for effect. He also has a huge need to be talked about all the time. It is odd when you think the masses would see through this that God Morning's figure have gone up...
It is surprising he has never been held accountable fro phone hacking ... but Rebekkah Brooks got of scot free ...

What have I missed. Been busy giving one of my direct reports a grilling for not wearing her mini skirt and high heels to the office.
