Ok so a woman my wife knows lost her job and couldn't keep up with her rent she had lived at the same address for 15 years and never missed a payment.

She comes home one afternoon to discover her personal belonging on the front garden and her furniture still inside the house but with the door locks changed.

Question is though can that be a legal eviction without a court order?

No it's not legal. But if she had been behind for uite a while and not paid then more than likely in breach of contract. Landlord would have had to send a notification letter of eviction before doing that otherwsie he was trespassing. I agree with Uplinks last statement

Having had a w@nker tenant who never had any intention of paying rent after the first couple of months and trashed our house, I found it was a long and convoluted process to get him out legally. This sounds very illegal!
