Greetings masterbuilders...
What are peoples experiences of Legoland?
Is it worth a trip (with a four year old), and is it worth staying at the Legoland hotel
(prices don't seem cheap).
Does anyone have any tips to reduce the cost?
"I think I got it. But just in case... tell me the whole thing again. I wasn't listening"
Well worth the trip to legoland with a 4 year old yes! we enjoyed the hotel, well the kids did. The food is abysmal but if it's just one night I'd say do it.
Yeah, worth the trip. Hotel is expensive but convenient, depends on your values whether it's worth it. We stayed in a hotel a few miles away which did a much cheaper Legoland package, but involved more sitting in traffic.
What's the deal with the hotel? Is it made entirely of lego?
Fly to Billund and go to the real one. Apparently the queues are horrendous at Windsor.
We paid for queue jumper thingys the second day - still much cheaper than staying at the hotel, and far less total time in queues. Though clearly those only work if most people don't get one...
Don't book your tickets or hotel through their website, you'll pay for the privilege.
We got an adults go free ticket courtesy of Kellogg's, and stayed at a hotel in Windsor about 15 minutes away.
Still cost us an arm and a leg
And everyone hates the QBotters
Depends how much your willing to spend I guess
I reckon it will be pretty miserable in the rain.
Been once, won't be going again, kids enjoyed it though
Qbotting made our second trip so much more successful than our first visit but you are despised by the masses. A good tip we were given when we weren't Q jumping was to head straight for the furthest end of the park and then work back against the general flow. I think we actually enjoyed the amusement park around Peppa Pig world more though, much less stress involved.
Do it. Fantastic day out. If it's an unusual one off for you like it was for us, normal holidays in bonny Scotland, then spend the money to make the most of it. Legoland hotel is great, a bit cheesy but kids will love it. Food was fine, did what it said on the tin. Early park entry and q bots meant we got to do everything we wanted to even on a super busy day. The park stayed open an extra hour because it was so busy. So much to do and just remember it's all about the kids!

Am I bovvered though? Far more fun to go to Drench Towers whilst "queueing" for the Dragon
Lots and lots to do for a for year old, and ours loved it, so definitely worth a visit.
We have done the trip over two days twice, and that seemed to do it justice.
This summer it was horrendously busy, and on the second day we gave in and bought the QBots (very reluctantly on my part). But... they transformed the visit and we got on more in the first two hours than we had done in the entire previous day.
Food is heinously expensive and really pretty poor for the most part, so set your expectations accordingly.
One other minor annoyance was that we had bought tickets through the Lego website and got our second day 'free', but we had paid full price for the first day.
Once in the park, they advertised that you could return again the next day for a fiver. We wished we had just eaten the Cornflakes and got the BOGOF instead.
But the kids loved it, so I can't really get too stroppy.
For food on site there is a pizza hut type place that does a buffet for a fixed price. Not bad for what it is.
If you avoid school holidays and weekends the queues aren't too bad. We've been twice this year in June and late September and the qbots wouldn't have saved much time. We live an hour away so not needed to try the hotel.
We took sandwiches.
We used the queuing time we had to eat our sandwiches.
I went expecting it to be poor but my (7 year old) daughter loved it which meant I had a good time too. Food in the park was poor value but was much better in the attached official hotel; You can get your hand stamped allowing you a temporary pass out to have lunch. Bonus of having lunch in the hotel was a couple of Lego characters wandering around, Lego shaped chips, and Lego themed toilets.

Went this summer with a 5 yr old.
1st day ques were horrendous ie 2hrs per ride. Managed about 5 rides all day 🙁 and it certainly wasn't good.
Second day you could get on rides as and when you wanted.
Don't go unless you have money off vouchers. Think we got ours from the Sun newspaper or something. We looked at the hotel and it was stupid money.
In summary, pick a busy day and it's awful. Pick a quiet day and it's great. On a quiet day you can do it all in a day, a busy day no chance.
Oh Jnr FD loved the live show
It was good we booked through Lego land and got the a Hilton near Windsor and 2 days entry which was a fair bit cheaper then the kellogs offer plus you got 2 days included
Went Fri and sat, Fri less ques sat much more
Good experience but wouldn't go again as lots of it is just shops and food outlets
The show was quite good
13 times last year and about 10 so far this year(merlin pass) and we live in Reading.
4 year old son loves it. We normally go on The water Viking ride, then the dragon roller in the castle, the water flume tide with the big wet Finnish by the burger bar, the Atlantis and boat school in the morning and the never had to wait for hours in any of them.
The toddler car school never seems to have a large queue so we go there and the water park in the afternoon if the weather is ok. For him it means he is not shivering so we always have trunks and towel with with us. Then a few others without big queues.
If we go as a family we didn't get on as many rides, if I take him we seem to get on a lot more
When we went I think we got a deal through using Tesco Clubcard vouchers. The deal cost about £150 and got three of us 2 days in the park and a night in a hotel near Heathrow.
We also ate at the Pizza Buffet place which did seem reasonable value (as far as food in theme parks goes), we also spotted Alex James from Blur in there 🙂
check the height restrictions on the rides. The queues are atrocious and you'll be lucky to do 4 rides in a day with wondering in between. The queuing is longer than the rides. Miniland is awesome and also the starwars display. The new lego friends show is a bit meh ( similar to cashing in on the friends sets) I like the pirates cove show myself. Yo also pay for the privilege of parking as well as the price of the ticket unless you have a preium merlin / annual pass. If you can stretch to it get an annual pass and not worry too much about trying to fit everything in. Duplo car driving, Fairy tale brook, Dino safari, atlantis, Train ride.
If you want to spend the day queuing do Laser raiders, boat thing and atlantis.
There used to be a 20% discount on food or kids eat free late in the day. I pop by a toby carvery in old windsor just before joining the m25 on the way back home
Went for the first time a few weeks ago. My 8 year old absolutely loved it so for that it was a success.
As above the food is absolutely dire so take your own, the whole place is very tired and needs a massive refurb. Bins were overflowing at 11 am so there's some sloppy maintenance going on.
My favourite bit was paying the £5 car park charge to get diverted into an overflow then stepping from the car into a muddy field. Customer experience at it's finest.
I don't have kids so never been, but I hate the one in Windsor as it makes my commute extra hell. Instant a school holiday comes up and the roads round there are jammed up.
The road past it is closed the whole of this month, which I'm hoping means they're finally sorting something out.
We used the queuing time we had to eat our sandwiches.
We didn't take that many sandwiches
Went this year and thought it was great. We had Qbots and experienced some hateful looks. I'd love to know what would happen if everyone had one. In a perfect world you'd just arrive at your specified time and jump on the ride, in reality I think people would still queue!
Technically the Qbot shouldn't beat the queue but I'm sure ours did. The Qbot premium, or whatever it's called, now that is cheating and costs a mint!
We lived in the road next door to Legoland for a year and had annual passes. Went many times (as you would), including after school, when there are no queues of course. It's a good day out, take your own food, expect to queue and work backwards. My favourite ride was demolished to build the hotel, so I'm obviously not a fan! There are cheaper places to stay nearby.
Oh and the road outside our house was clogged every day at chucking out time, but we used to cycle up, park next to the entrance and ride home past the queues 8)
Merlin have the market sewn up; pre-teens to Legoland, early teens to Chessington (which I preferred), and older teens to Thorpe Park (not been, but the teens have many times).
I pop by a toby carvery in old windsor just before joining the m25 on the way back home
The harvester at the end of Old Windsor before Runnymede is a lot better.
If you're taking a young one then check out the ride height restrictions. If you can go on all the rides then go for 2 days.
Get the Q-Bots. It seems like a crazy extra expense but on a busy day it can make the difference between queue misery and repeated ride fun. Also small children invariably need the toilet just as you get in sight of the ride.
Haven't stayed in the resort hotel. It always seems too expensive. We've stayed at the Slough Holiday Inn for our two visits. You can often find some accommodation + Legoland ticket deals online.
Even though our children were on the cusp of being too old last time we went I'm still keen to go to Billund. I was trapped in Boston, MA. During the Icelandic ash cloud event a few years back. Some folks from Lego Billund were also trapped and were staying at the same hotel I was. They were brilliant.
As others have mentioned traffic to get in and out of the park can be horrendous at busy times. If you're approaching the park on the M4 from the East, try coming off at J5 and head towards Datchet / Old Windsor, go out through the Great Park on the A332 and loop back to Legoland on the B3022 (currently closed). Likewise M4 from the West, off at J8/9 and head towards Bracknell on the A330 and then left onto the Drift Road and left onto the B3022.
As for the current road works on the B3023 approaching the park from the South West, this is to fix a failing culvert, nothing to improve traffic approaching the park.
Definitely worth it although probably not for full price. Have a look on ebay for tickets, we went a few weeks ago and six tickets cost £48 (for them all not each!).. Loads of people sell the Sun ones and other complimentary tickets..
Legoland is amazing. Been every other year since it opened. Was better before we had kids.
We usually get an annual pass with Tesco vouchers and then pack two trips into the 12 months.
When I win the lottery, we'll stay at the hotel. Get a cheap booking at Windsor Central Travelodge. Basic but adequate, book far enough in advance for £20 plus breakfast deals, only 10-15 minutes from the park and you are right in the centre of town for places to eat in the evening - you may need to plan and book.
And a great big castle on tap as well!
