Can anyone recommend some warm everyday (not bike) gloves? Preferably touch screen compatible and not bulky.

Thanks!

Decathlon have Madison Element thermal gloves for £7.99 at the moment in store (Reading). More of a Spring / Autumn glove.

Just wear the winter ones you use on your bike.

I've got some quite nice ones from M&S for normal wear rather than riding, they don't seem to do the exact same model anymore but they are pretty similar to these:

Pictures floating in the mind of folks wearing pogies to the corner shop 😂

I wear liners (silver thread ones as I suffer with terribly cold hands), and then if needed primaloft gloves over. In fact, I've just realised I've left my 'good' gloves at home and I'm away working in Glasgow. Dammit. Might need to visit Tisos for an early Xmas pressie to myself - primaloft mitts i reckon!!!

I got these mittens from Decathlon - great for walking the dog (saves having to take gloves off to battle with poo bags) and equally good for phone use - just quick lift of the mitten flap and you're good to go. They also have a very slim cuff so they sit under coat cuffs nicely.

I forgot gloves on a visit to the lakes last year (there was snow in May),so dived in to Fishers and bought a pair of Montane Goretex They are ace and I now wear them them the most for cycling, walking and gadding about.

I've been wearing Aldi/Lidl winter cycling gloves as my everyday gloves - they've been great. I think they were £4.99

I’ve yet to find any ‘touchscreen compatible’ gloves that actually work. The only guaranteed ones have no fingertips.

Thanks all, I think the Montane might be worth a look. I have also seen some Icebreaker but not sure on the durability:

^ have Montane gloves on silly sale at present. Most of family_oab are sporting shiny new Montane gloves this winter.

I really like Prism (great in wet weather on hills). Tornado (all round use) and any of the PowerStretch, PowerDry or Liner gloves 👍

If it's just a few things you need to tap on your screen, licking the end of your finger makes any gloves temporarily touchscreen compatible. Just a useful tip for answering a phone call or whatever in a panic when swiping the screen does absolutely nothing!!!!!

Is it not easier to lick the screen? Then you can use any of your fingers.

This is a really puzzling thread for me. Gloves are just something that you walk into any supermarket or clothes shop to pick up. They are almost disposable. Why would anyone need a recommendation on what to buy? (Especially given the lack of stated budget or anything any more specific than 'able to use a phone' which is a feature of any £5 pair these days. Supposedly. Despite having used the internet since it's early days, I'm now obviously getting too old and grumpy to understand it any longer. 😀

I have pair of Rossignol ones I got from TK Maxx for about £8 a few years ago, similar to the ones in this set:

https://www.tkmaxx.com/uk/en/men/accessories/hats-gloves+scarves/hats/black-hat+glove-gift-set/p/34682641

Keep my hands warm and I can use my phone for calls/texts whilst wearing them, no waterproofing though so not ideal if they get wet.

I don't know if they've changed, but the first iteration of these was incredibly slippery when trying to hold things like ice axes, phones, pint glasses etc. No grippy material on fingers, slippery outer fabric, splippage within the synthetic fibre insulation. Fine if you don't need to handle much wearing them though. Rab's similar glove, the erm, Xenon, has at least got some sort of reinforced palm. Great as back-up gloves on the hill though. Would be terrible on a bike fwiw.

I just use an old pair of ME Windstopper gloves, great unless they get wet in which case they are cold. I've never found a touchscreen compatible glove that's consistently useful tbh.

Yep, most never seem to work when I'm wearing them in any real situation....

Because - I've never found any gloves that allow me to keep dexterity & keep my hands warm

I guess that’s how you go about buying all your clothes, just walk into any random supermarket or clothes shop and buy anything that’s vaguely the right size, then?

For those that are interested I ended up with some Montane Krypton Lite. They seem to do the job nicely, not too thick, grippy, plenty warm and the touch function is reliable for me.
