Love the Merino socks from planet X but they are shit for life span! Need socks for everyday life that will last! On my feet all day so need comfy and warm.
Apart from defeet what else should I be looking at? Like thick socks

These from Asda;
https://direct.asda.com/george/men/socks/workwear-cushion-sole-black-socks-5-pack/GEM653934,default,pd.html

I walk 10miles a day and these are comfy and last really well. I binned all my old socks when I discovered these a few years ago.

Maybe check in-store? I buy the larger ones (size 11feet) and they fit fine.

Have done Ben Nevis, Snowdon, 22mile walks in them plus daily wear in steel toe caps and they are great.

Pringle 'Full Cushion Sports Socks'

Comfy, warm and very, very long lasting - usually in packs of three for a tenner.

I've been gradually replacing anything that has worn out with these and now they are pretty much the only socks I have for anything other than cycling or hiking. I've never had to throw a pair of the Pringles away - they seem to be ever lasting. I guess I must have ones that are 5 or 6 years old but I wouldn't know which ones they are

I did buy some thickies a while back as they had an offer on when I was buying other stuff - nice to wear but started failing  quickly. On One seem to get them in batches and longevity is perhaps a bit of a lottery depending on what batch you buy from. They're also heralded as 'merino' but mine are mostly acrylic.

My On One thickys have lasted well, I just brought some more but they don't seem as thick, still warm though.

TK Maxx usually have decent socks which would fit the bill. Often have Prngle sport sock as mentioned above.

You can browse online but going in store would give you a much better idea.

I'm going to check out those Asda socks next time I'm in store.

Stance socks. They come up on sportspursuit every now and then. Their everyday socks are thick and comfy.

Alpkit have been the best Merino socks I've ever had.

Woolie Boolies, if there is a question about socks the answer is always Woolie Boolies.

I personally swear by these Finisterre as an everyday sock.

I've got some On One/PX Thickies that are still fine ~10 years on, the Thinnies are dying though, after loads of use! I bought a few new pairs the other week for £2.49 each, including the very vibrant "orange splat," having only had "skull and crossbones" and "Tour of Flanders" varieties before.

My thickies wore out at the heel pretty quickly.

Bridgedale Merino hikers are my go-to now. Lovely and warm and quite thick. Cotswold outdoors often have a 2 for 15quid offer (the normal 18quid a pair is a bit steep for my liking).

Costco merino hiker ones, probably a bit thick for many but suit me most things.

My thickies are indestructible. As a side note they have a remarkable ability to pick up every single hair or fibre off the floor.

I have the splats and the Dennis The Menace striped socks and they wore through on the soles after, I’d say, 10 wears. I bought several pairs so the ones that are still ok are being used very sparingly. Shame as I love the designs.

With wool especially merino you get what you pay for, which is longer fibres that are more resistant to piling, bobbling and shedding. In my experience Alpkit socks wear out in months, whereas premium brands like Thorlo, Meindl, Bridgedale and Smartwool last years.

I bought some black 'Holdsworth' branded ones from OO/PX a few years ago for 99p (got 6 pairs I think) and they've lasted extremely well. Very soft and comfy too.

I found my thickies all wore at the top of the heel, especially when I was wearing Chelsea boots and walking across the city centre every day.

I've been lucky enough to get a few pairs of woolie bookies cheap and also a load of TLD camber socks, which are high quality but slightly less thick.

I found they didn't last that well, but were very comfy and warm.

Glad this thread has come up, finding my usual thin work socks aren't keeping my feet warm wfh.

These are excellent, same thickness /length as the On Ones, but much, much better quality

Life is too short to spend half your life matching up pairs. I'm this > < close to throwing out every pair of everyday socks I own and buying like a dozen matching pairs.

Not found longevity of the on-ones to be an issue but finer gradation of sizes would be better.

Who the hell spends any time at all giving a shit about what colour anyone’s socks are? Well, I’m sure there are some who obsess about it, but I’ve been buying packs of M&S cotton rich sports socks for many years, always in black, and if one wears out, I keep the other until another wears, then I’ve got a matching pair again.
They’re not very warm when wearing steelies in the winter, though, even with neoprene boot socks over the top. Even M&S thicker warm socks don’t work very well, and they don’t do the wool walking socks anymore, sadly.

Bamboo socks seem to stay nicest for longest IME. I have some from Seasalt which look prettt, though Mabboo ones have lasted best. https://mabboo.com/collections/bamboo-socks-mens
