I did notice that Junkyard had been posting some opinions recently that were diametrically opposed to his usual political stance – maybe his log-in has been hi-jacked?

I caught one of those and thought the same. It was almost like he'd taken a different stance just to have something to argue - which didn't seem typical.

STW does seem to have become more of an echo chamber recently. Post an opinion not in keeping with someone else's world view and you are accused of trolling. Too many closed minds all nodding at each other.

EU immigrants are overwhelming positive in their contributions to the economy - thats the truth.  Pay more in tax and take less in services that Uk citizens.  Losing them is a huge loss to the economy and the country - see the NHS for a clear example.

Dunno about that but it was the acceptance of abuse of leavers that seemed to drift past moderation that certainly made me think less of this place. Brexit bashing is an STW editorial stance judging by some of what has featured on the forum, as a result I post here less ( tilts head, as hears cheering offstage) as being accused of racism makes me a touch... well touchy.

eddiebaby - I think that " abuse of leavers" was too things - one perceptions ( IMO remainers got a lot of abuse) and more importantly reaction to the piles of piffle posted by THM

I don’t like this banning malarkey. I’ve been fairly relaxed and philosophical about the whole forum update thing because I’ve figured that it will get there in the end, but this banning of individuals that aren’t blatantly abusive, astroturfy or massive trolls sticks in my throat a bit. Would really like to hear a mods side of things before making my mind up, but I really don’t like it.

There is too many folk who added a lot to this place missing.  the forum is less for their lack.  not just those two bannees but loads of others who have not been seen since the great upgrade fiasco

Always been a lurker more than a poster, but posted for the first time in two years last night and got some helpful replies.

This place is always changing. I miss some of the old regulars, but  not all.

We went through a bit of a golden period after some people left/were banned,  then IMHO we've had an awfully bad spell of deliberate nastiness and very unpleasant  trolling, the Corbyn and Brexit threads being a prime example. Hatred for the sake of it, a deliberate attempt to set people against each other and encourage the worst aspects of human nature.

It affected all of us, even Molgrips, a genuinely nice bloke who seems to have become a bit jaded by it all.

On the upside, we've some great new posters - hats off to Saxon Rider for posting some topics genuinely worth debating.

I like Junkyard. He's a genuinely decent man who comes across badly on here. He'll be missed.

However, the Update thread has really shown some other  people I've respected for ages in  a very unpleasant light. I'm not a fan of  bans, but some people really, really need to piss off and not come back - they contribute nothing and suck the life out of the place.

Can’t argue with that, but I actually think that, for a significant number of Leave voters, it’s uncontrolled illegal immigration that’s the issue, not those who have come here legally, have jobs and who have contributed significantly to this country, and to our society in general; certainly, all of the immigrant workers who I’ve been in contact with over the last few years have been really lovely people, who it’s been an absolute pleasure to work with, something that can’t always be said of others I’ve been forced to work with who are native to the UK...
