Has anyone done the above event and is it good fun? Looking at doing this but friends are all busy so doing it solo and i have never done an organised ride before so not sure what i need.
not sure what i need.
1. A bike.
I've done one and it was pretty good, though obviously being an organised ride they had to use roads to join things up instead of cheeky trails. Busy enough that navigation wasn't an issue.
Go here ( http://www.evanscycles.com/ride-it/hire-a-garmin) and fill out the form for an Edge 1000, they pre-load the route for you to follow.
Not done one of their sportives but done a few of the off road ride-its. I found them well organised with good route marking and more cake than I could eat. I will be doing more this year.
All you need is what you'd usually carry on a ride but the feed stations mean you can eat and top up with water/High5 rather than carry enough for the whole ride.
This is a road version of the event. So if i just take one bottle that will be enough then? How many people normally take part in these events?

My advice is that you take sufficient that you don't need to rely on the water / feed stations.
I did the leeds off road last year, (I also did the peaks one too.) they are really well organised, the feed stations are really good had loads of different cakes, loads of free hi5 gels and bars, aswell as water/hi5 juice?!
I spoke to one of the staff last year and told us there were about 200 doing the offroad ones, but did say that there are generally more for the road sportive however the peaks off road had less than 100 do it. If you look through the Evans blog and scroll back to last year you should be able to see the times from last and it will give you an idea of how many did it.
Just checked back through my emails and had this link to the Facebook page for it if it helps https://m.facebook.com/events/448811385239416?view=permalink&id=509882912465596&src=email_notif
It says there were 500 did it.
So quite popular then! I guess there will be plenty of groups to tag on to then. Thanks for the advice so far, i think i will take my small mtb backpack with me then.
There was a 3 for 2 offer on Evans ride it, put down for the offroad leeds and peak district and the road one on the north york moors.
