Hi all - I see eurosport are doing their 20 quid for the year thing. Few questions for anyone who has it...

- how hard is it to cancel after the year?
- can you cast it to your tv?
- does it show all the bike races (I know it shows the tour, what about velta / giro)?
- is there anything else on worth watching (I don't like football)?

Thanks!

Once you've paid the £20 for the year, cancel your payment in the app.

A few here have forgotten to in the past and ended up having to pay the full price the following year and Eurosport wouldn't refund them.

Is the view that this is better than the GCN Race Pass?
It’s cheaper certainly and you seem to get more albeit you miss out on a bit of racing.

And do people find it works well on smart TVs?

I wasn't mad on the UX when I had it before, but that was using mobile and a Chromecast.

I had Eurosport this year via Amazon Prime Video and the UI was shocking especially when trying to figure out what to watch (tiny icons with no proper description)

A couple of years ago I had eurosport and found it appalling, laggy, buggy and crashed a lot - thankfully they seemed to have massively upped their game now. Great menus and UI, and the cycling coverage with 'The Breakaway' show is brilliant.

boombang, are you saying it's crap via Prime but decent on their own app?

Your description of the Prime experience resonates with how I found their app a few years ago.

Following this thread I’ve just subscribed.

For the prime thing, I subscribed online with Eurosport then just logged in using the Firestick.

If you subscribe via Prime are you locked into using Prime to access?

i've got the GCN thing at the moment - it didn't seem to work properly with the tour - just laggy when used with chromecast or casted directly to the TV. I was hoping this would be better (having looked seems their is an app for samsung tellies too)

Very interested in Samsung TV owners' feedback myself.

Particularly those who favour watching the hour-long highlights of an evening, rather than following all the races live.

I use the Eurosport app on apple tv - works really well and the UI seems fine

Can anybody stand the GCN/Eurosport race coverage? Dan Whatsisface and Gripper Wiggins, God save us all... It was a relief to get proper Vuelta coverage back until they stuck it on past bedtime...

Is it not still Rob Hatch or Carlton Kirby with either Sean Kelly or Brian Smith as co-commentator?

Not sure I want in if I'm not gonna hear Sean talking about "the group of big favourites" or "Gillipe Philbert making a long-range attack".

It's only £40 a year full price even if you forget to cancel. They added 4 months onto my subscription for free due to lack of sport during lockdown 1.

Works pretty well for me casting to chromecast via either a windows laptop or android phone. You get practically all the world tour road races and some random track stuff and CX too.

Typically you can watch the following versions of a race: Full thing with commentary, full thing with ambient noise, edited 90 min highlights which are usually aired from 8-9.30pm which is a bit easier to tune into than the ITV ones at 7pm if you have kids. Sometimes there are terribly edited 20 min highlights somewhere on the player too. All these you can skip through them if watching as catch up, and if you are a bit late to the live show you can rewind it.

I don't mind the commentary too much but can understand those who hate it.

I've used it a lot this year on a Samsung with their native app and it works really well. Mostly WSBK and BSB but the odd bit of other catch up. I got it in last years £20 offer which I think is still valid till April as they extended it. Might get my Dad to sign up for this one now as we watch the WSBK together anyway then simply cancel the renewal on my own account

Also works really well if you're WFH and have a second screen: I watched the Tour/Giro/Vuelta in a maximised Chrome window on my second screen using the online player. (An unexpected bonus of WFH 🙂 )
