You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I bought an inter rail pass and just wanted to pick the forum mind goe inspiration.
I'll probably have up to two weeks and don't mind flying either.
Was thinking of Norway and Sweden for the artic circle and midnight sun etc. Any other ideas welcome too.
Thanks
Depends what you want. Obv the high speed lines will get you further in a day but not sure if the Nordics have this. You will need to pay a bit extra for seat reservations, but it's still worth it.
With 2 weeks, i'd do a few major points and stay a few days in each place, rather than constantly travelling.
Prob best to fly to Stockholm and go from there.
Avoid German trains. Not what they once were. Some of the wurst delays and cancellations in Europe.
I would thoroughly recommend 'Man at Seat 61' as THE definitive oracle. If it isn't on that website it is not worth knowing.
The interrail pass has better value in the Nordic countries and then generally worse value as you travel further east (as walk up tickets are cheaper).
Beware of high speed train supplements in France, Spain, Italy and on Eurostar (both Cross Channel & former Thalys) as these can mount up.
Personally, it depends what you are into - is it the trains themselves, the journey, or seeing many places.
Whatever that is I can thoroughly recommend Switzerland - particularly the Bernina Express and the whole of the Rhb network (there was another thread on this earlier this week). Austria is very underrated scenically too. If you are going to the north, I would recommend the Bergensbahn as that is very scenic.
Are you interested in sleeper trains, as this can save the cost of a hotel room.
Bernina Express
Take your bike..... Best shuttle ever! And surprisingly cheap for Switzerland.

I have wondered about that. Get out at the top of the pass and ride back down?
