alot of people don't understand the defensive job these players do, sometimes they may not look like they are doing much going forward, but they are keeping people busy down the wing, and they help push a team back further up the pitch by stopping you getting attacked down that wing.. It has an effect on the whole opposition team.

Why when Sterling had the left wing to himself did we resort to defensive play when we'd not had a problem all night? Sheesh

From what we saw earlier Wales aren't going to beat either England or Russia.

Copy will be about Sterling I'd say, he was dire wasting so many opportunities. Both Vardy and Kane need to play against Slovakia and Wales

classic 1st goal capitulation.. shows the 3rd rate replacements for the first team.. Milner and wilshere poor.. couldve been worse we couldve had henderson.

I was enjoying the football in the first half. Hodgson should not be following the lvg guide to winning gammes

wilshere poor

Really? Thought he played quite well for the brief time he was on.

...and Milner wasn't on the pitch long enough to make any impact.

I'm not sure I saw the same game as some of you lot. Wilshere poor?

Onwards and upwards! Positive performance . Would rather a 1-1 like this than a 0-0 with Algeria like World Cup 2010.

Russia goal was created by a lovely combination from Wilshere and Milner.. Didnt have to be on the pitch that long for them to make an impact !
Shame England's shape and intensity dropped in the second half. Got to move on now and win the next game. Give Sturridge and Rashford a go

Yeah, I had a feeling. Cashed out my bets with 5 mins to go, as I just didn't have the confidence they'd close it out.

Anyway you can qualify with 3 draws, so it'll be reet.

Kane taking corners and set pieces is a joke. Sterling was absolutely dire. But he tracked back so that's ok(?!).

We terrorised the right wing first half then switched almost exclusively to sterling. Game over.
Still, I'm a glass half full kinda guy. Hopefully sterling will get injured

Wales will finish above England

Can't quite figure out what happened there tbh. Great intensity. Great pressure. Dominance. Possession. Movement.

Should have had the Russians put away after the first half. Kane wasn't great today but wtf is he doing taking corners?

I still think they'll be ok, but crikey, this Wales England game is even more massive now than I thought it would be.

The good news is that youse should beat wales and slovakia. Wales have a chance against Russia, if the first half team turns up and they keep it tight at the back.

England, Wales qualifying isn't beyond the realms of possibilty. Wales will even have a shot at one of the 3rd spots if they don't beat russia.

I'd take russia to beat slovakia.

To be fair to Kane he was hardly given anything to work with. Why the management have their best striker taking set pieces is anyone guess.

How bad was Stirling's end product I don't remember anything all night.

Bizarre ITV coverage you'd think they were world beaters from the chat, yet hardly had a shot on target, the goal and the Rooney hit are the only decent ones I remember.

Would give Kane another go to be honest. Better than Vardy in every respect, bar running fast in a straight line. Thought England were decent, Rooney surprised me to be honest. Should have won the game sure, but it makes the next one a bit tasty!

Sorry, we are absolutely sure how they got the winter olympics and world cup. Winter olympics was the most expensive ever with inflated government contracts (state money) going to private companies who are close to Putin.

Kane had nothing to work with best chances fell to Llanana and Sterling. Rooney was a bit unlucky althoug shot too close to the keeper really.

Dier even managed a few words in French to Ginola 🙂

WTF are you on about?
Have you broken the bet allready whereby if Wilshere played or not - you not me yes- the loser would be nice for a week- I linked to it but it probably passed by you by. Still if you must break your word probably best to attack me.
Shakes head
I would not have held you to it, as i did not on the last one you lost, but I really did not expect that as your reaction 😯

Kane is a great player and the future england No1 striker but even a spurs fan has to accept he did not do much today. Its not like its just me saying it

Sterling is there because of his price tag. He's been equally dire for Citah all season. Awful! He's the most overrated/ overpriced player since Andy Carrol - who also ended up, totally ineffectually, in Woys line up on the strength of his price tag.

A number 7 who couldn't deliver an accurate final cross if his life depended on it? And when has a sight of goal, looks like a rabbit in the headlights, and couldn't hit a barn door with a shovel? And he gets a starting place every game because, well... erm... City paid 50 big ones for him. So he can't be shit, can he?

They did, and he is! He'll be out on loan at Stoke within a season. There is never ever any end result with him. Ever! It's row z or just falling over

Hard to see Pep tolerating that sort of performance for long next year. Vardy should have come on with 20-30 mins to go and should start the next game imho.

Lallana flatters to deceive, how he can be described as an attacking midfielder god only knows ! 0 goals in 24, I suppose he runs around a lot in the oppositions half and is nicer to look at than Wayne.

Lallana was decent all night, huge work rate chasing and closing down, and not bad on the ball either.

Sterling - just astounds me. It seems like he's only programmed to do one thing at a time, he's clearly been told to use his pace and run at the defence but at the same time it'd be nice if he could think about what he's going to do next. Instead he charges forward into another dead end situation where he's either snuffed out by help defence, or completely isolated from his team. Has to improve, can't keep doing it, but still he does.

I was initially feeling slightly encouraged when Woy was interviewed just before the match and he said that the quality in the team meant that there was no need for the typical route 1 style of play of past Ingurland teams...

The first five minutes of play demonstrated that either the 'lads' were not listening to him, or didn't understand what he meant, whereby the hoof it up forward and hope one of the dudes in a white shirt can get the ball seemed to be the favoured approach. 😕

Aside from that, sitting too deep, not pressing high up the field when Russia had the ball, removing a known goal scorer from the opponents goal area, allowing the back four to pass between themselves until one of them miscues, or hoofs it hopefully forward, the attacking midfielders not dropping back to link up, playing Sterling for nearly the whole match and... not scoring more goals than the opposing team, despite all our ineffective possession.

Lucky to get a draw TBH and against many other better teams, Ingurland would have been taken apart.

Normal tournament service resumed.

Sterling is what he is and most of it has been covered[fast headless chicken with no end product] but england were by far the better team and very unlucky to not win the game

Perspective? Is there a committee awarding points for artistic interpretation? Or is it still a knock out competition where you get 3 points for a win, and 1 for a draw?!

You can tell you've been watching LVG's United all season. You've actually bought into the philosophy mate 😆

fist half was great to watch, but clearly have to convert that dominance to the scoresheet

wilshire for rooney was ok, straight swap and wilshire looked comfortable
milner for sterling, while it sounds like strengthening defence achieved the opposite with milner at fault for conceding the corner and then failing to put in a proper challenge, two mistakes in 30secs cost us two points.

kane was not great, though he did buy us the goal, i would have liked to see either vardy or sturridge as a straight swap

This. Kane has been to the Teddy Sheringham school of winning free kicks (Michael Owen ditto). Not subbing Sterling before the end if the first half showed lack of courage and or stubbornness as he was coearly having a shocker.

Two wins and we top the group 🙂

After a great Wales match, and an over optimistic Engerland one, I'm still well up.

I've gone for a 2-1 to Turkey, and Germany Winning tonight with Muller as first scorer and getting 2 or more. I've also bet on him for the Golden boot too. I reckon an Ozil assist is a safe bet too.

Mrs Binners correctly bet on a 1-1 draw last night, so she's getting the beers in for that one later! 😀

EDIT: Mrs Binners has also got Croatia to win. They're 1 - 0 up 😕

I have Croatia to win as part of my treble, so a win would be good for me. So far predicting all three matches, and cashing out just before it's too late, has done me ok so far. It's picking goalscorers I have been bad at.

...with that in mind. I need Mandzukic to get off his arse and score a goal.
