Is anyone able to confirm the EU regulations regarding cancelled flights/ferries (I believe ferries have the same rules applied fairly recently)

Our ferry from Bergen to Hirtshals was cancelled with one week's notice which has necessitated a complete change of plans with regards to getting home from Norway. We've got a full refund on our tickets but I can't work out if the EU regulations apply

b r Some of the problem is that Norway have to implement EU legislation as a requirement of free-trade.

As I understand it, the regulations apply to travel to or from the EU. Hirtshals is in Denmark which is in the EU.

I'm on my phone at the mo so can't easily check but if you google something like 'site:europa.eu ferry cancelation' you are likely to get to something about the regulations

Thanks, that seems to confirm everything I've read. That compensation is due for delays but not complete cancellations. They only have to offer full reimbursement or re-routing.

Have incurred extra expense in telephone calls, internet searches, toll roads, additional ferries to rebook new route home etc.

It's probably not enough extra to be worth claiming on travel insurance due to the excess but thought that the ferry company may owe something when cancelling a 17 hour ferry journey with less than a week's notice.

Luckily Norway's mobile network is fantastic so I got a text message whilst camping in the middle of a national park watching musk ox. So at least we knew asap.

Our ferry to Le Havre has just been cancelled too. 2 days notice (French strikes). We have an alternative ferry to caen, but no cabin, which in annoyed about as I'm the driver and wanted a good sleep before driving to alps. Small reimbursement, but that is all.
