trying to choose a new printer as my Kodak is terrible. Do I go HP and instant ink or Epson ecotank?

Occasional use for kids homework and home printing.

I have ET7700 - about a year old. TBH a bit of a PITA for me. Intermittent issues with network connection printing from PCs (and mobile devices) in the house. Print quality was good but have now had to refill the tanks (with OEM ink) and getting ink marks across the page. Of course just out of warranty now so will have to send off for repair. It sounded a great idea at the time but not sure I would go for same again in the future.

HP Instant Ink on the other hand is superb, I wouldn't look past it. The lowest price band is something like £2/mo, barely noticeable. The actual printer (Envy HP5644) is also faultless. Just works, never dries out.

swaped to Hp instant ink after Epsom printer clogged up. £40 for printer and free ink what's not to like.

it says eco in the name, usually means it's shit.  See also green and gamechanger

HP instant ink seems to be a winner these days

We have an Epson ET-2550 at Hebtroco for our dispatch / pick note printing and it's been so awesome over the last three years I've just bought another an ET-2650 for home.

I guess it must have printed about 20,000 dispatch notes or something.

Incredibly cheap to refill, rock solid performer.

And I hate printers.

I think instant ink is ace, but my missis has real problems making the printer work with her iPhone.

This is probably part of its success. I had an Epson printer many years ago that clogged if I didn't use it frequently, and it sounds like this still might be an issue. So by using it loads you're probably getting the best of it. The last two HPs since then though have never clogged during sporadic use.

Nice thing about Instant Ink also is that it doesn't matter what's on the pages you print. So you can print 100 pages of night sky images if you want, still doesn't cost extra.
