Need some ideas to entertain my 74 yr old dad (and keep my mum sane in the process) - he had a minor heart attack when we rode up to the pub a couple of weeks ago. On the mend, stents fitted, back home but he's frustrated being on 'light duties'.

Normally he's riding his e-bike, flying his microlight, building motorbikes in his garage. He's a voracious reader (can get through a 1" paperback in a day) but I can't keep up with what he's already got through. Oh and he used to own a model shop so has done to death model planes, heli's, boats & cars.

Was thinking of getting him a lego ISS which might entertain him for a day or two - anything similar which he can build (and better if useable in some way after).

Thanks!

Is he into art and does he or you have an iPad?
My 90year old dad has become absorbed in translating some photos he has taken over the years into ‘watercolours’ using the amusingly titled Procreate app. He was getting a bit stir crazy now that he finds going out in the winter months a bit challenging for his asthma and found using real watercolours too much of a phaff to get out and put away so this has kept him busy (and a bit frustrated at times)
Edit: I think the most important part for dad was learning a new skill, he has found the mental stimulation as satisfying as the results.

Photography? Can either go for short gentle walks or do stuff indoors like playing with macro/lighting setups etc. Could do analogue film developing etc as well.

If he isn't shy about computers how about picking up a budget 3D printer (something like and Ender 3 v2) and getting him set up with a free Fusion 360 account to start seeing what he can come up with to build using a new (desk based) set of tools?

Send him the nest from me and MrsWCA. If there is anything they need, I am just down the road.

Also, is he bored enough to subscribe to my channel?

Chess or other board games? Model making is a great choice too.

Can he do CAD? Might make some cash doing CAD models for 3D printing.

My other perennial suggestion - amateur radio. Great fun and so many avenues to explore. Can even knuckle down and learn CW like I am at the moment 🙂

Build a watch? Either source the bits himself/yourself or there are kits and tutorials.
