I managed to kill one of the collets on my blind bearing puller (really don't ask how, stupidity is answer enough). So I emailed the manufacturer Franklin tools, and a replacement is £44 (£130 odd for full kit)... but ebay is full of complete kits for less than £30. It's not like I use the kit loads, but I do use it quite regularly & know I need will need that size again.
So are the ebay kits complete rubbish or worth it for the home user?

I don't/wouldn't have something in my tool box that I wouldn't use at work.
You may get lucky with an e bay tool or cause yourself more grief. Who knows?
Ex motor mech, currently factory fitter having been "on the tools" as it were for 44yrs and the auld "buy cheap, buy twice" is never more true when some tool or other breaks, rounds or otherwise causes double the work 🙄 last thing I need in the middle of a weekend night shift are cheap tools 🙁

yeah I know that the obvious answer, but being skint and having lots of bills, it's hard to justify that price for one piece of tooling for a hobby.
Will probably go for the original kit, & really I knew I would...

Not designed to drive out headsets are they, pull only 😆
Best purchase out there, it's saved loads of angst removing bike bearings from various neglected seized in situations....so much as I would like to sell you my part from my set I won't.

LOL Suggsey, they are definitely not designed to push out fricken jammed in PF BB's either... I didn't think it could do any harm DOH! 😳

I only guessed as I nearly and I say nearly abused my set the other week in a similar situation but persevered with the seized in races instead... 😆
Still I would suggest that there may be a better specific tool for the PF BB issue that you should buy instead/ as well, the misses will understand if ever she notices 😆

TBH I have a FSA tool and had tried that with no success & can't see the park tool would have been any better. I'd been attacking it with that tool, and the bearing puller for over an hour before frustration led to the slip in judgement
A large hammer, screw driver, & brute force and a eventually did for it... it wasn't pretty. Bugger knows how a piece of plastic can be so thoroughly stuck.

A few years back cheap tools were just that, but nowadays it seems quality between top and bottom isn't that great, unless you're on about specialist tools, but a slide hammer and collets shouldn't be that different in quality if you get something that's got a bit of a quality finish.
