Hi guys,

I'm a second year mech eng student in birmingham and I'm looking for either a summer placement or a year in industry...

I am trying the conventional means of applying for jobs too (I'm by no means a "typical lazy student") but I thought I would try on here too!

I would like to specialise in design, and I have experience in solidworks, catia and autoCAD. Though I would consider anything really, I do have a keen interest in robotics and I have done some basic programming on an arduino board, I am willing to learn!

I am based in the midlands (Warwickshire) and I do drive

I can provide an up to date CV and references

Cheers
Ash

P.s mods I hope this is ok putting this up as I am technically looking for help...

This isn't really any more than a suggestion, but I'd say stick in an application to Ricardo. We've got a site in Leamington ad are pretty busy at the moment so I'm sure will be taking on placement students. Mainly transmission development up there but some engine as well. Great company to have on your CV!

Hi. I work in the body in white cae department at nissan motor manufacturing uk ltd in washington, tyne and wear. We currently have places for one year long placements. You would need strong catia skills and a knowledge of robots would be an advantage. Go to careersatnissan.co.uk to apply.

Try giving the recruitment team at Goodrich in Wolverhampton a call. We are employing heavily still I believe. They use Catia. They have a massive amount of work at the moment.

Also, their 'sister' company Aero Engine Controls in Hall Green may have something. They use UGnX.

My brother did the same as you and ended up with Ricardo. They are a well-established motor engineering consultancy so a job with them can lead you in all kinds of directions. As it happened he ended up being sent to Detroit to build Hummer 11 for GM (yes) and he stayed on in a variety of jobs. Currently he is self-employed and involved in an interesting project to develop a two-stroke flat four diesel engine with Deltic-style opposed pistons.

Is Cheltenham too far? GE Aviation are always taking on interns and placement students.

If you fancy coming East, then we may have something ?

www.active-technologies.co.uk

We use Solidworks / Catia / Pro-E etc, quite a wide range of engineering design and development jobs.

Let me know if thats of interest ?
When are you looking to start ?
