Got a 14 year old petrol car going for mot next month. Only just got through last one due to lambda reading on emissions. Is it worth using an injector cleaner or similar additive? If so, which ones?
I've used Comma or Wynns before now and they've been pretty good. Stay away from redex is the word on the streets, possibly due to it doing two tanks in one bottle and there's a risk of over doing it. I've stopped using it with the latest car. Find putting super unleaded in gives the same readings.
Cheers. Anymore for anymore?
On recommendation of the testing garage for a previous car i put posh petrol (Shell V-Power) in it and then went and found some nice contry roads and ragged it for half an hour on my way back to the test satation. Don't know if it was the petrol or me blasting some of the crap out of it but it worked 😀
used stuff from powerenhancer
BG44k I think is the stuff for petrol cars.
Don't know how good it was though.. seemed to increase fuel economy a bit.
Extra fuel economy would be nice but just cleaning things enough to get through the mot is what we're after.

giving it a good blast every now and again does help it I find.
Stick in a new air filter and keep your fanck addatives unless your car right old heap
Motorway late at night (or private road if you're going to go >70mph) and give it an "Italian tune"
We had a 4 year old transit minibus at work that failed on emissions(!) - I did the foot to floor in 2nd and redlined it along the main road for about 5 miles. Cue comedy smoke emissions, but a pass in the test....
Cataclean make some incredible claims, but....

if additives do remove / clean anything out of the engine etc then it will just come out of the exhaust as ..... higher emissions... maybe.
These additives are fairly good at cleaning out the loose change from pockets and money out of some peoples wallets.
What car / engine is it?
Italian tune can be done off motorway in 3rd gear but does sound a bit odd. All that really matters is you get the revs and power delivery up a bit.
However if the lambda was out you either have an o2 sensor fail or hole in the exhaust by probability, both easy and fairly cheap fixes.

Yes but the key word you're missing is "measurable". Most of the emissions from an exhaust are not measured even on the emissions test, so providing your additive can convert it to one of the non-measured ones you're ok! However yes, I agree, most additives are not worth the font they're printed with.
+1 on the motorway 'late night' testing.
The M6 Toll is quite fun...
Drive it like you stole it for 20 mins before the test! Mwahahaha
STP injector cleaner the tank before your MOT will clean the injectors (I alsways recommend it to folk with sticking injectors and it works) followed by some spirited use of the throttle and a new air filter and oil and filter change. As for the lambda sensor they can get fouled by too little heat/throttle use (my wifes VW Polo 1litre registered a fault and it had minor mis fire through lack of use on the run up to MOT this month but did all the above and it sailed through easily on the emissions and cured the mis fire too).
give it an "Italian tune"
You mean like 'Quando Quando Quando'? Or a bit of Matt Munro?
It's a 1.3 Toyota corolla that does ten miles urban in the morning and the same back home 5 days a week with the occasional trip to the supermarket.
what rusty mac said.
additives wont do diddly, they just make people think they do.
get it nice and warmed up and then give it a good spanking, about an hour before the test ideally.ive even seen mot testers do this when they know there is nowt wrong with a car except its been driven and owned by miss daisy!
