You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
By choosing a new ScottishPower tariff on or before 30th September 2015 you'll avoid moving automatically to our Standard tariff (our cheapest variable tariff) on 1st October 2015. This may work out to be more expensive for you.
So I have to select a special tariff or they move me to their cheapest one. I get that.
The cheapest one might be more expensive than one that is not the cheapest one. eh?
Crackers bonkers!
It's because a small enough unit of time between the cheapest variable tariff becoming more expensive than the special tariffs that you can no longer access hasn't been defined yet.
Presumably if you've chosen a fixed rate, their variable rate could be more expensive now and cheaper in future.
Seems to make sense to me, presuming that is the context..?

I think they're asking you to join a fixed tariff or else your account will default to their cheapest currently available variable tariff. I don't read that as saying that the fixed tariff is more expensive than the standard variable only that the standard variable is the cheapest of the available variable tariffs.
