We used to get circulars through the letterbox all of the time, normally hand delivered and obviously pushing the boundaries of truth...

We had a letter from the Energy Funding Service and it looks more professional at least and they seem to be a thing online.  However, the letter gives a local number rather than the national office that I see online.

Anybody dealt with these people as I just happen to need a new boiler!

I had a letter from them this morning. I think it's in the bin.

I got one from "Eco By Assure," sounds to be the same thing.  Again, a local number on the card, perhaps they franchise it out to local trades?

It seems legit, you get free stuff if you're on qualifying benefits.  I haven't looked into it any further than that though.

Government grant funded quango - means tested insulation & boilers but you need a household income of <£31k to qualify for most of the grants.

Ah, thanks.  Makes sense, no mention of means testing on our letter.  Bin it is.

no mention of means testing on our letter.

Do you have oil heating?

I think there's a scheme for people who aren't on mains gas to get a heatpump, insulation & solar installed that isn't means tested (AFAIK). I believe it's only available as a package (e.g. you can't get the solar & insulation without also taking the heatpump), and think that it is a contribution towards the cost, rather than 'free' as such.[**]

There are too many sharks in the water for me to investigate much further, and we have a nice, new oil boiler that is much cheaper to run than a heat-pump and can use bio fuel when it becomes widely available.

Edit [**] This is in Wales. Ingerlund has different schemes, apparently.
