Endura’s been sold - to Pentland brands (owners of Speedo):

Hopefully this is good news for the company and employees with greater investment to follow.

Maybe the stitching on the hems will improve.

Having worked for Pentland it may not be great. (Although this is 15 years ago now)

Pentland are good at marketing and and supply chain production stuff. Which is great for generic sports kit where fashion dictates design.

They managed to make Berghaus a bit mass market though and the kit became a bit ‘Caravan club’ although now it seems to have turned a corner and is producing good technical/functional kit again.

I like Endura kit as (build quality aside) it feels like it was designed by a bike rider with a set of requirements. I hope they retain this

Maybe they'll use their expertise to ensure that their products actually fit humans, and aren't just a collection of randomly sized panels.

This.

Just abysmal sizing. I've bought stuff and had to check they hadn't sent me the equivalent woman's size. Laughably bad fit. Of the few bits that did fit, the quality and longevity was very poor. Not a brand I'd buy from nowadays.

That's where the big money is though! Just look at how successful Mountain Warehouse has become just selling gloves, hats and coats to dog walkers (It made pre-tax profits of £19.8m last year on sales of £184.8m).

^ that.

best of luck to the employees. hopefully the production issues can be sorted out. there are some really nice aspects of design to their stuff, it's just very poorly executed in production it seems.

Pentland seem to be doing a pretty good job with Canterbury.

Their rugby shirts are ace, their boots are bloody ubiquitous in age group rugby and their training kit is nice and properly sized for their target market (ie big blokes).

Mountain warehouse has become my favourite budget brand.  They make loads of great kit.  It's unrecognisable from budget gear when I was a lad.

Funny innit? Myself and most of the folk I ride with own an extensive collection of Endura kit and never seem to have any fit or quality issues.

I have a 5 year old pair of MT500 tights on which one ankle zip for snagged and I damaged it. I emailed them to find out if they were going to manufacture that model again and ended up with having both zips replaced free of charge.

As above, I'm happy with pretty much all of my Endura kit for fit and durability.  Only one pair of Humvee shorts with a popper that was a little weak stands out as slightly annoying.  Maybe I just didn't buy the stuff that didn't fit when I tried it on.

+2, I've got tons of Endura kit and it's my favorite. For me, it's been good quality and great fit. My shorts are almost 5 years old and everything is still working, despite 3+ rides a week year round, including gritty winter. Can't believe they've not worn out yet.

I remember many junior school field trips, in the rain, wearing a Peter Storm water proof cagoule which leaked like a sieve yet held sweat in like a plastic bag.

virtually all my MTB kit now is Endura and as with scoutroutes and others, I have had no issues at all with fit or quality.  I have noticed that sizing can vary a bit between different lines - the Singletrack sorts have roomier waist that the same labelled sized MTRs for example.

Their shorts are great, once they got rid of the useless popper and replaced it with a button.

But as with most buyouts, they will look to maximise profits and minimise costs.

So sadly I expect things like the button will go back to being a popper if its cheaper.

Also worth mentioning...I was stuck in Edinburgh Airport with a Sales Rep for PlayerLayer yesterday.  They share a factory in China with Canterbury.

Do Endura still make some kit in Scotland or is it all in China now too?

It's mostly made in Livingston IIRC. They've certainly been doing more there than previously.

Perhaps now they'll honour warranties when their £90 jackets delaminate after minimal use. Thieving cretinous shitlords.

On sizing, the Humvee trousers sum it up. My 33" waist is a Medium according to their website. Yes, the trouser fits my waist but the supplied belt doesn't and the thigh is too tight for comfort. (I'm a regular cyclist so it can't be too difficult to work out that my thighs might be slightly larger than a non-cyclist's?)

Medium in these trousers is up to 35" waist - I'm not normally a medium in trousers.

> I’m not normally a medium in trousers.

Vanity sizing means that trouser sizes / waist sizes are pretty meaningless, you get huge variations between makes e.g. I have some 34" White Stuff jeans which are really 40" as measured with a tape measure....

I too have never had an issue with Endura quality or fit. Sure the popper on the shorts wasn't the best idea, but that was probably about 10 years ago and I've got over it*. The 5 pairs of Humvees that I've had since, all of which are still functioning, have a button.

Hope it works out for their employees.

*It reminds me of the old joke:

I've made a thousand boats, but am I known as a boat builder?

I've caught a thousand fish, but am I know as a fisherman?

but I've only ****ed one goat.

The thing is though, everyone I know with a goat has had it ****ed by Endura.

Maybe I should have been more obvious - I'm normally a large. And obviously there is a variation in  clothing sizes, that's not the important part of my post.

Alternative opinion.  I find it to be terrible.  Badly fitting, poorly designed, cheap materials.  Just dismal.

Well, you'd expect cheap materials on cheap kit - but I've been pleasantly surprised - what did you find that was bad?

To some extent any business who didn't do that would be mental. However, you can resuce costs without impacting quality of done correctly,

And I think Pentland see this more as a opportunity to get into a lucrative on the up market, and they'll feel they can push Endura into more retail outlets etc.

On cheap kit I'd far rather buy Regatta over Mountain Warehouse. Mountain Warehouse except for cheap kit for kids is utterly sh*t.

I’ve bought stuff and had to check they hadn’t sent me the equivalent woman’s size.

Much the same happened in reverse to a teammate - she ordered women's bibshorts and they sent her men's bibs sewn to women's bottoms. That may have been the order where I sent over a third of the items back to be remade, after it had been a couple of months late due to being 'held up in QC'.

If Endura were the last kit manufacturer on earth, I'd take up another sport.

if they dont fit go up a size

Actually need to go up about three sizes from past experience.

Amazing how I can consistently be a large in every other manufacturers range yet with endura Large it looks as though I'm struggling to wear children's clothing. I bought a pair of their waterproof trousers years ago that I couldn't get past my knees.

I wear a Medium in all Endura kit - same as just about every other item of clothing I own (other than "race" style road jerseys)

I like some of their stuff a lot but their gloves, aaargh. It's not just that the waterproof gloves aren't even a little bit waterproof, it's that when you contact them and complain they just don't really seem to understand what you're talking about. Like, why do you expect waterproof stuff to be waterproof, are you mad?

Someone on here picked up a warranty replacement set of shorts at a race, put them on, then took them back to the stall halfway through the race for another warranty replacement, I thought that was pretty good.

I hope they can keep the design and production in the UK though, and maybe with outside investment they can up their game a bit.

I’ve had three endura jackets, two where the zip broke and the third is like a sail despite being the same size as the other two. The two pairs of shorts I’ve had fit me well but fell apart pretty quickly.

Ive got a winter roadie jacket that I’ve recently bought that isn’t bad, but I’ve not worn it much so there’s still time.

They make nice looking kit, just from my experience it doesn’t last long.

I think if this thread shows anything it’s that they’re inconsistent as a brand. Maybe the buyout will improve this...

I remember during the 2014 referendum campaign the owner was talking about moving production overseas as it would have been too expensive to stay in result of Yes vote as we would no longer be in the EU etc etc. Seemed like just the excuse he had been waiting a while for. Can't see any of it remaining now under new ownership.

People din't consider that they have a much bigger range than a lot of other brands, so more opportunity for some of their products to turn out a bit duff.

Recent stuff's been OK for me. Love the Jetstream jersey in particular. MTR Emergency Shell jacket also very well thought out and useable.

I like my Endura kit, well, the bits that fit me anyway...

I have to have the vents on my Singletrack trousers open at all times or the don't fit. A cyclist with big thighs, who'da thunk it?

I wanted a gilet, but none of them fit, even the ones that are the same size on paper as my Flyte waterproof (really?) jacket.

My MT500 waterproof shorts are pretty good though.

I ended up buying a softshell gilet from Mountain Warehouse and it's great. Cheap too.
