So what's the alternative now my old one got past it's best, and the bleeding dog chewed the peak just to make sure. What I liked about it.

Close fitting and warm.

Super ear and neck coverage.

Peak, (obviously)

Won't need to wear under a helmet so doesn't need to be very thin.

Not highly patterned.

I feel your pain. Left my very old full merino one on a train years and tears ago. Then lost the not-so-good re-issued one somewhere else.
Take a look a the US wool jeep hat. You too could look like Radar from M#A#S#H

I'm using one of these:

(grey version)

Think I've got one I don't use if you want it? Far too warm for me.

Rapha do a peaked merino hat

Don't know what this version is like but the non peaked one is good - i originally bought it for wearing under a helmet but ended up getting another one to wear normally too.

Such a dull thread, I almost forgot I started it last night.

So more than presently surprised by the suggestions, some of which I'd spotted, but some definitely not. Much appreciated. 👍

Belgian winter cycling caps are the dogs bollocks.

They also fit under a helmet.
