Does it need to be special bathroom moisture-resistant paint? The top coloured emulsion will be.
This is not going directly onto bare plaster. I am painting over the existing paint.
So...
Plaster > existing paint > white emulsion base (does this need to be bathroom paint? > coloured emulsion (this will be proper bathroom paint).
Im askinng because i didnt think it mattered but my local indie hardware store assistant thought it should be. She didnt seem too convincing though - ans I didnt fancy spending £15 extra just in case.
Thanks!
Is this to make it easier to put the colours on? You would probably be best using a decent undercoat instead of just white emulsion.
If existing paint is solid and has a key (I've sanded some really plasticy bathroom vynyl before) then I would just go straight over the top with top coat.
Thanks everyone!! 🙂
Base coat with contact emulsion and top coat with acrilic eggshell.

I didnt do this, but now wish I had as my handiwork is cracking. I'll now need to sand it down and redo the job in 50% of the bathroom
For what it's worth.... In a previous difficult to ventilate bathroom I used a Zinser base paint of some type, under the bathroom emulsion & never had any problems with it after that - a previous basic emulsion only lasted just a few months above the shower area before peeling.

I've painted bare plaster with a couple of coats of shit white emulsion and then a couple of coats of dulux bathroom paint and its been fine for years.
