Hi wonderful people,

I have he pleasure of seeing foo fighters next month at the above location, yay.

Being a southerner that has moved to the great North, I have not been to this venue before, does anyone have any parking tips/locations please? It's over a 2 hour journey so can't pop over to do a recce thanks

Welcome to the North, good choice! You'll find lots of touts offering unofficial parking in the vicinity of the stadium. As far as I know this is both safe and relatively cheap, the cricket stadium (where your gig is) and the Man Utd stadium are practically next to each other so there is a massive 'local economy' around car parking. There is no road parking within a decent walk as it is all controlled parking when matches or gigs are on. The alternative is to park on King's Road near Stretford tram stop and take the tram one stop to Old Trafford which is right next to the cricket ground. Of course this means getting caught in the tram queues on exit. However that option is probably better than the traffic jams getting out of the carparks and heading South on Chester Road (which is a huge bottleneck as it is one of a few roads that cross the Mersey) or West through Trafford Park. If you don't mind a walk it's about 20mins to get to the Southern end of Kings Road (nr Stretford tram stop) where you can park for free, so could park up, tram it to gig and then walk back to car afterwards

Or Altrincham, as that's on the Old Trafford line. Might be horrifically busy on the return journey,  but I suspect they plan for that with loads of services.

Park at the park n ride near the Trafford center and get the tram to wharfside near man utd ground and walk the short distance to the concert?

After the gig walk to wharfside and get a tram back to the Parkway tram stop.

Depends on reasonable walk. Park in Firswood or northern Chorlton and it's only a 10min walk or so.

There a public CP in Chorlton here walk past the Morrisons to the Chorlton tram stop, get off at Trafford Bar a couple of stops later and stroll into the stadium from there. Alternatively you can just walk 20 mins or so to the stadium from the car park, about a mile and a half.

Also, nearby hotel recommendations for that Foo Fighters gig please. Ideally with parking by the sounds of it.

Bookmarking for the wife as she's off too!*

A friend of mine who goes to a lot of games at Man Utd told me lots of unofficial car parks spring up on the way in. He always uses those.

The Bowling Green  As long as you don't mind staying in pubs. It's a short walk (10-15 mins) to the tram-stop

I'd be amazed if you could find anywhere to stay nearby to be honest (especially at this point), I've never managed to find anywhere (or if I have, it's been £100's a night which I'm way too tight to pay!).

Parking - at the football ground, but be prepared to wait a while to get out or we normally park at first street q park in Manchester and walk. Probably 40 mins walk, but you can have a drink somewhere on the way.

I'm also going, and have booked to park on someone's drive with JustPark. I use it for London frequently and its decent. About £14 for the night, which seems like a bargain when its £11 for 4 hours in Bristol.

Done a few gigs at the Cricket ground.

Park at Sale Water Park Tram/Park&Ride - big, modern car park means easy in/out.

Tram takes you to Trafford Bar - important becuase its close, but not the closest tram stop to the stadium. Thus we've never really had bad queues on the way in or out.

And then your straight out of the car park and onto the motorway for a quick escape afterwards. Works great!

Is that the cricket ground?  I used to work next door.

One thing I'll add to the above advice, don't chance your arm with on-street parking.  A lot of it is residents-only and it is aggressively enforced.

Thread bump!

Seems parking is still available at Old Trafford stadium - thinking of booking it for my wife so at least she knows she has a space even if there's a wait to get out.

But!...

On the Man Utd website it's asking to 'choose a seat'! Do you just pick a random spot to reserve a parking space!?

Park at east didsbury and take the tram.

Park at Lowry outlet car park and tram it.

There might be local college/school field that has parking similar to OT match day but that was years ago.

Park in Manchester then tram.

Stay at Cheadle village hotel then drive to east didsbury for park and ride.
