My workshops chuffing freezing and I'm thinking of putting a couple of rads in its 40sqm and insulated.
I want to know oil filled or not?
I'm going to go for wifi controlled so I can pop them on before I go in and I can put a frost alarm on.
So any suggestions
I’ve got a few WiFi appliances branded ElectriQ (think it’s the appliances direct own brand) which I’ve been happy with. I see they do a WiFi oil-filled rad too.
(Bear in mind their smart products use Tuya for WiFi/smart control which works via Chinese cloud servers, this is pretty common though and a lot of cheaper WiFi gadgets do the same, so it’s not a problem or security risk as such!)
Alternatively a “dumb” OFR (must be an old-school one with analog controls or it won’t turn on when power is applied!) will work in combination with a WiFi smart plug.
Could you get an infra red heater instead?
Heating up a very cold workshop to a comfortable temperature won’t be cheap. An infra red heater would heat you instantly and, providing you’re in front of it. It’s a nice heat too.
Edit- and a Wi-Fi plug
Was looking at a IR over my bench for if I'm just nipping in to do a job.
I'd like to be able to bring the ambient up however for just being a nicer environment. Not on about 20deg just if I'm there all day a nice 10/12 deg would make it so much nicer
It's 40mm on the walls and 60mm on the roof of celotex style so it's not bad once it's got some heat in.
Ah fair enough- my shed has no insulation at all, hence me thinking about an IR panel on the ceiling
Yeah went full spec on the building
I’ve got a standard oil filled radiator in my office on a HomeKit plug that I can switch on from my phone while I’m having breakfast.
I just do a load of squats down touch the floor, then stand tall touch the shed roof, 50 do it, gets me nice and toasty!
Not quite the same when your lying down stitching a sill on....
For a space that large (similar to mine) you'd need something to move the air around. I have an air cleaner hanging from the roof and it makes it more bearable in the summer heat. I'm assuming it would do the same to spread heat about in winter.
Electric wifi radiators
Mark Riley had them on in session the other night on 6 Music 👍
I read that as electric wife radiator 😄
I would look into a blown air diesel heater with a phone operated remote. Would cost pence and not pounds to heat the space and be much quicker too. Take a risk on a Chinese one for under 100 quid or go branded for 500 plus. Not sure how much extra a phone remote is mind.
Ive a Chinese ersbacher in the van and I did wonder about using one in here...
It's bloody good too!
Only reason I thought wifi panel heaters is I can set a frost level...
More expensive but what about an infrared panel heater?
Or just a standard oil fired radiator with smart socket on the end ?
wood burning stove ?
If I had a stove I'd live on there doing nothing but watching flames
