Hi
One of my tenants has just rung to say that the sealed electric central heating boiler in his flat is leaking. The emergency plumber has been in and is telling me it needs replacing. It is 15 years old but he's quoting ~£3200+VAT to replace with a more up to date system.

Does anyone on here have any experience of these systems? The boiler is contained in a cupboard and runs standard wet radiators and runs on "Economy 2000" tariff. Is ~£3200 reasonable price? What is a reliable brand of boiler to swap to?

Thanks!
BG

Surely it would cost less than that to switch to a gas boiler, if you have a feed?

Sounds a lot to me, depends on which electric boiler but they are generally quite cheap to buy. Where are you in the uk?

It is an unvented water heater i.e heatrae sadia megaflow or such like. these are repalceable for about £1500 or less depending upon the size of the tank. it will cost more to have a new gas supply installed and the system modified to a boiler, so your best bet is to get some other quotes. plus there are loads of new models of electric central heating systems available now which are very good and pretty cheap it might be worth looking at one of these. Try ZIP water heaters.
