Hi all,

is there an affordable (£12k) electric car that can take 3 car seats across the rear seats? Tesla's etc are lovely but seriously pricey!

cheers

Anything with a Multimac.

env200 is available as a combi with 5 or 7 seats and may work.

That nissan sounds good. Anyone got any real world experience of them?

Like the equivalent leaf, but with cheaper plastics, and propper bog basic van suspension. Combi version very rare too.

Why do you want an electric car?  Serious question,

From the last thread they were mentioned in - apparently you really don't want to look into the side impact performance of them

Why electric?

95% of journeys are short 10-15 mile round trip. It would save a fortune in fuel tax etc. It'll be part of me 'doing my bit' and demonstrate that to my kids.

Before everyone says just ride it my wife doesnt ride and cycling with 3 kids 5 and under is not very practical!

Yea had a quick look at env200 does seem rather basic in many regards. Not that we care for soft touch plastics, the leaf springs are a touch out of date!

Ok so a hybrid would work too.  Would an Outlander get 3 seats in the back?  Certainly will do your mileage

You have already failed on that one by having 3 kids!

I think the question is these days why not electric. Unless you do a huge amount of driving mostly long distances, then EV's drive better than oil burners. My brother has a Leaf he got for his wife and he drives it more than she does. His A6 Avant doesn't get a look in these days.

I'm trying to talk the wife into an electric car to replace her 1 Series...she's not convinced but would be perfect for her. I'd have on no worries...when the van goes in a couple of years i'll certainly be looking at them. So on that note, not sure if a Leaf fits the brief, but certainly from my brothers experiences it's a brilliant thing.

No, it wouldn’t..

3 child seats =  MPV or full size SUV

£12k

Forget it.  Wait until you have a lot more money.

Cheaper to run, cleaner, more fun to drive yada yada

Never mind all that though; even with our boring little Zoe I can be inside my nice warm house, press a button on the key or the app and the car warms up, demists and defrosts itself. I can be having a second round of toast while everyone else is scraping away, freezing their ears off.

Even if you forget, you don't have to wait ages for an engine to warm up before you get any warm air, it starts blowing hot air at you pretty much instantly.

It's bloody brilliant

On topic for a change, there's a very similar thread on SpeakEV that might be interesting (unless it's you that started it...):

phil,

no i didnt but i'll check it out!

How do you quote here!

funky dunc, i know what you mean, however as a family we are raising (or at least trying to) the kids on the importance of being aware of our impact as a species, to this end, we dont fly, try to eat seasonal food, are eating less meat, consider where our purchases come from. we do hand-me-downs on clothes, toys, bikes etc. don't get me wrong, there are LOADS of other things that we need to do to get better, but having children in itself doesn't (in my humble opinion) have to be an environmental disaster

re the outlander, seats won't fit, and once battery is discharged its shocking on fuel. should have said it does 10-15 miles about 4-5 times a day

@angeldust  My Leaf is the top spec model and when I bought it it had 4k miles on it and looked brand new despite being 18 months old. Had 3.5 years warranty left. It was 11k.

Does it take 3 kids seats across the back?

Yes it will. I've done it in mine for the grandkids.

PHEV also suits our driving perfectly, mostly local miles on overnight charge with the occasional long trip without any range anxiety or charging faff.

@daffy - No rental - Leaf's used to do it but now they are almost all owned. Its really only Renault that rent batteries now.

@angeldust - yes, its relevant

Ps44 thats good to know. What type of seats were they? High back boosters? Rear facing? The little booster seats? Or a mix?

Sure it is.  A small hatchback that doesn't fit 3 kids seats across the back is exactly what the OP needs.  Excellent work :-).  Another good deed for the day.
