Stripping and peeing into sacred lakes after being told no by guides.
Only sorry after being caught.
3 days jail pfft.
A bit silly to do so in a foreign country where you don't really know the law, but I wouldn't say an £850 fine and prison time is getting off lightly for taking off your clothes on the top of a mountain with hardly anyone else around.
It wouldn't be a crime in the UK, and personally I think our system is better than one that still allows the death penalty for 11 different offences.
It's an utter travesty that this has been headline news for days. What a joke.
Yeah they were stupid, but they were just having a laugh. Due to our press and the slackjaws that produce & consume it she may well have a compromised future.
Just not news.
But they caused a earthquake a week later !
Bang 'em up for good !
she may well have a compromised future.
She's a household name (for now; better get a publicist quick) quite cute, and she's happy to get naked. Some doors may have shut as a result of this, but others have definitely opened... She'll be a reality TV 'star' before Christmas, I'll wager.
They have angered the gods.
They have angered the gods.
Enough of this bollocks. They have done something which didn't go down at all well in the country they were visiting. They got into trouble for it.
I don't think he was being serious.
I think the accepted punishment for angering the gods and causing earthquakes is to be sacrificed by being tossed into the nearest volcano isn't it? That'll appease the gods for a short while. So on that basis I think they have got off lightly.
what al said and slowoldman
If someone came her and posed naked on the cenotaph and had a pee then some of us would be morally outraged [ the DM/UKIP would be apoplectic if an immigrant came here and disrespected our traditions ] as well.
Little bits of misreporting and racism in all this as well. Imagine the UK press being sensationalist and talking bollocks eh
Yoofs being foolish, slap on wrist, public embarrassment/shame/notoriety seems a like a reasonable compromise to me tbh.
Yes, they were stupid but myths and legends are no foundations for a legal system and therefore I think their punishment was right and fair. Anything else would have been unjust.
attention whores got some attention - what's not to like ?
They were in a Muslim country, try doing the same in Iran or an IS controlled area and three days in prison and £1k fine is nothing. If she was lucky she would be stoned to death there.
You've got to respect the country you're visiting religion and customs. Don't like them don't go!

What, been naked in public or public urination?

Think you'll find they are, if someone wants them to be.
Why don't I ever have to investigate things like this 🙁
Tell us your patch and I will come and dance naked for you 😯
great ape, see page one plenty to er... look into

I doubt that anyone in the UK has ever been put in prison for getting their tits out up a mountain. Or pissing in the countryside.
If anyone has this fella has

Seeing as both the mountain and the cenotaph are monuments to the dead, would you say that swinging on the cenotaph and being sent down for 16 months is a bit harsh then? The Tory press who seem to be piss taking over the malaysians went ape-shit over tht.

I'm not talking about de-facing a monument, I'm talking about the calls in the country for additional punishment due to the suggestion that they angered the mountain and caused an earthquake. Once you get over that, it's down to the country's legal system to deal with them how their law, not superstition, dictates. They've done that, it's over.

Still, it would appear that their legal system in this case is more civilized than ours, no? Despite some Malaysians being mountain worshiping polytheists?
Also, please link me to where people have suggested they go down for longer for pissing off some mountain god, as opposed to just showing a general lack of respect.

Nah, look it up yourself. I just heard it on the news. Maybe it was wrong, maybe not.
I was in my local Camping/Climbing shop just yesterday. Picked up a marketing brochure for an outdoor company that sells woolen technical underwear.
Middle section of brochure was dedicated to a promotion they were running. Images included climbers and skiers wearing nowt but their boxers.
The promotion promised that if you submitted a similar picture in an equally inspiring/adventurous location, then you would win some free outdoor gear.
I am sure that they wouldn't want people stripping naked and peeing on either the Cenotaph or a sacred foreign mountain but I am glad Eleanor Hawkins gave a genuine apology on the radio this morning rather than "we were just having some fun" which seems to be the fall-back argument for anyone under the age of 25 who can't think before they act.
Also noticed the tagline from a marketing campaign for a well known brand of adventure sport digital camera. "No evidence....... then you didn't do it."

Imagine the outcry though if a bunch of foreign tourists had stripped of and pee'd in the font at St. Paul's Cathedral for a laugh. Apparently the mountain top is also a massive tourist attraction with a lot of folk about at the time.
I think that they got of very lightly and I get annoyed by the types that think coming from a white, western democracy exempts you from just justice in a foreign country.
It's a poor show by the angry God's. They missed the chance of zapping the girl with a bolt of lightning live on Sky news.
Nah, look it up yourself. I just heard it on the news. Maybe it was wrong, maybe not.
Oh yeah, cuz the news is never biased and racist.
Any pics of this 'offence' anywhere???
I've not seen any . . .
