To help speed up doing some poached eggs I picked up one of these from Wilko Linky but in four attempts now at poaching eggs in it, they have always come out really snotty/raw and needed another round of water adding and cooking but then are basically hard boiled. I do not know what I am doing wrong! Does anyone else own one of these and get good results?
I'm not sure whether to try different water temps or maybe letting my eggs get to room temp from chilled maybe?

Cheating? Seriously just play with timing with some hot water in a pan and some gently added eggs and before very long you'll have decently poached eggs in a short time.
You might get something for that device on eBay.
oooh havent seen one of those before. ive got the this salter jobbie which is great but only does 2 poachers. yours does 3 which is about right for me.
i see it has a little measuring cup, same as mine. surely you just need to stick a bit more water in the cup so it steams for a little longer? and just mark the cup with whatever amount of water makes the best eggs?

You chill your eggs? What fresh hell is this?

They should be kept at a relatively low temperature (below 20deg) so a normal home is often too warm (unless you have a pantry / cold store). They don't need to be chilled in supermarkets as the ambient temperature is usually lower (around 18deg).
Fresh eggs and get them out the fridge.
Water is probably too hot - are you letting it boil constantly? I have one of those poaching pan things, small shallow saucepan with an insert that holds four eggs, and it works really well but if you let the water boil the eggs cook too quickly and you can boil it dry very easily.
Get the water to boiling point, then turn down to simmer and put the eggs in for 3 mins or so. I think the idea is that the steam gently cooks them, if there's too much steam then the outside will cook and look ready but inside will be a gloopy mess.
Edit: We keep our eggs in the pantry (large coolish cupboard really). If you're taking them from the fridge then it'll take longer for the inside to warm and cook.
