So simple, yet so delicious and it's getting made for dinner tonight.

How do I go about declaring this day National Egg, Chips and Beans day?

Yes, simple pleasures. Mmm. How many calories though? Should I only have 1 egg?

2 poached eggs, two sausages, chips & beans. Worcestershire sauce for the beans & brown for the sausage...

Think I may have that for my tea tonight too, come to think of it.

Eggs should only ever be on the same plate as beans if there is a solid barrier to seperate the two. A sausage is ideal for this. Maybe 2 or 3 just to make sure. An egg should never ever be compromised by direct contact with bean juice

That makes me feel uneasy too.

Do we reckon gods eat? Surely they don't need to as it means they would have to poo which is messy and they could probably do without all the fuss.

But then how are you going to mix the yolk with the beans? This is an unnecessary complication.

Just use the chips as an egg/bean barrier if it bothers you. You can even stack the chip in the form of an actual wall. Adding sausages is a bonus.

Personally though i'd happily slap a egg or two on top of beans on toast!!

The white of the egg can’t be runny and clear. Not even a tiny bit. I’ll tolerate over easy if sunny side up with no clear is beyond your skill set. The beans need to have had the liquid at the top of the tin run off before warming so they form more of a mound than a slick. The chips need to be a proper David Dickinson in colour. Sauce brown and salt and vinegar or tap.

Alternatively you can raise the egg(s) on a plinth of fried bread.

Christ there's some fussy buggers on here. It all goes down the same hole so does it matter what touches what on the plate?

Egg, chips and beans is great there's no doubt

But.... egg, chips, beans and gammon ham last night was brilliant... The colemans brought out the almost fruitiness of the gammon ?

But the best part of my meal was the company.... Me and the lad, 8, sitting opposite each other. He lite a candle and told he how he didn't like mondays because, "my hand writing is all rubbish, after not writing at the weekend" 🙂

Oh ... and we both built chip walls to stop the dread egg/bean mix

Salt n vinegar on the chips, black pepper on the beans, egg and ham.

But l forgot the cup of tea to wash it down.

Now this is as bonkers as Mrs Digga who, if I've cooked sausage, beans and mash, will go utterly ballistic if I don't construct a mash dam to stop the snags getting 'contaminated' with bean juice.

People really need to stop being so precious. It all goes in and comes out the same way.

You have sausage and mash without gravy?? are you insane? no amount of bean juice will ever compensate for that.

I find the chips perform as an effective “boom” betwixt the egg and bean juice. S&V on the chips. HP and salt on the egg. At least two slices of Warburton’s Toastie loaf buttered. Sublime really.

Copious amounts of brown sauce go some way to restoring the balance, I feel. Although I'm stealing this suggestion next time:

scruff9252
Worcestershire sauce for the beans & brown for the sausage…

Eggs go on top of the chips, then you can stab the yolks to coat the chips in yolk

No no no nooo! I REALY want egg, chips and beans now! But I'm trying to get into shape and have a diet and exercise plan. This does not fit my plan 🙁

I'm allowed 1 cheat day week to eat what I want but as its bro's day on Friday and mum is making a special meal my cheat day is already reserved! I'm going to have to wait till next week now to have this ... [grumpy face]

"Eggs go on top of the chips, then you can stab the yolks to coat the chips in yolk"

This is food porn for me!

Away with your poached eggs. Fried eggs or none at all. Down with your chip walls and to hell with sausage breakwaters. Let the juices mingle.
A vegetarian sausage is ideal though.😀

A "vegetarian sausage" is a non-sequitur par excellence. Neither those strange fungusy things nor the pressed vegetable mash cylinders are a sausage.

Also, none of these meals, fine though they are, have yet featured bacon or black pudding, or fried onion rings, or mushrooms, or steak.

At LAST. Someone who agrees with me.
I struggle with them on the same plate tbh.
The flavours just clash so badly.

My son thinks I am menthol.

Well it was made for dinner and it was as every bit good as expected. Real homemade chips, Branston baked beans (with dash of Worcestershire sauce - thanks to scruff9252) and two fried eggs. Served with slices of buttered plain loaf bread and washed down with a bottle of Schiehallion lager.

Happy National Egg, Chips and Beans Day 2019!

Beans should be heated on the hob for no less than 15 minutes. Egg yokes should be firm with a runny centre, no runny white - basted rather than flipped. Beans & egg should be encouraged to mix freely.

Eggs must be fried. Minimum 2.
They can touch the beans, but just a bit.
Eggs can go on top of chips. Or under for dipping.
Beans shouldn't soggy the chips.
Salt only, no place for vinegar here.
Brown Sauce allowed if HP.

Thems the rules. Now let's do this!

Tracey, please let me apologise for what follows...but
1. Beans too runny. Need to be warmed (but not boiled) for another hour.
2. Fish fingers - Sloppy. Left to burn. (sorry)
3. The “chips” are floppy, I can tell, but worst of all, they’ve got skin on them. That’s never allowed.
4. The round, plump, brown thing with bits of grain in it at the top should be a square, white flat thing with enough coating of butter (at the right temperature) so as to leave bite marks.
5. Finally, there’s no goddam egg.
Honestly. Amateurs.
As you were.....

That beige cubist relief sculpture with the pink mousse is interesting.

However, to work:

Eggs must be fried. Minimum 2.

Indeed. And chips must be home-made or frozen, not chip shop. Thin to medium crinkle-cut to capture yolk and sauces, and also for extra flavour (more golden surface area per chip)

They can touch the beans, but just a bit.

Yet again on the nosey

Eggs can go on top of chips. Or under for dipping.

Are we related?

Beans shouldn’t soggy the chips.

Dad?

Salt only, and vinegar only on the chips and egg. no place for vinegar here.

Zounds, an imposter. ^ FTFY

Brown Sauce allowed if HP Daddies or 'OK'

All better.

PS yes to beans must be heated properly until dull and gooey the plate. Shiny slippery beans are too cold or heated too quickly to have produced the correct flavours and texture.

I’m trying to lose weight at the moment, this thread is hell ha ha.

I can’t decide which I love more, Egg Beans and Chips or Fish Finger Sandwihes. I worked a system to ‘get’ 6 in each (by eating 2 as I’m making them).

Not sure what all this nonsense about dipping eggs is about. Only one way to eat fried eggs. Trim and eat all the white from around the yolk and then the yolk is eaten whole in one go.

Admittedly, I don't know anyone else who eats them like this, and my wife gives me a proper disgusted look every time I do it...

Oh god yes, beans need to be cooked, not just warmed.

My inherent tightness lead me off the path recently and I bought Branston Beans, they’ve been half-price in Tesco for months. They’re about 80% okay, can’t justify a reduction in happiness like that for the sake of a few pence.

^Have tried being precious with baked beans yet after extensive home-lab blind taste-tests* I can report the following

Cans of regular baked beans taste like baked beans whether a 27p Aldidl job or a best part of a quid tin of H****57 from the corner shop. Especially after 15-20 mins on a low heat.

I am fairly sure that my gran, who was a black belt tenth dan at cooking, used to pop a drop of full fat milk into the pan of baked beans and yes, cooked on them on the hob until dull and gooey, not shiny and runny.

One of my aunties used to buy beans from Aldi while my family is a staunch proponent of Heinz.

She used to say "well what can you expect for 4p* a tin? Anyway - beans are beans."

Those last four words almost caused me to fillet her with a butter knife.

*I'm going back a while here.

Pleased to note the general appreciation of long simmering times for beans. Also the use of 'basting' as applied to fried eggs gives me hope for mankind.

But, putting vinegar on this meal is a travesty.

Get ye behind me, Satan.

Well guess what we're having for dinner tonight!!

Egg's won't be flipped - they'll be gently bathed in hot oil to ensure firm whites and runny yolks.
Brown sauce, salt and vinegar will be used - sorry.

As for having a barrier - my Mrs would disagree as she has this thing where she just cuts the whole lot up and mixes it all together - weird right???

Sorry to spoil all your fun but i am going to be “that guy” in this thread. I hate eggs and wont have them in any form anywhere near my chips and beans! I am going to be “that guy” again and say i stopped eating beans years ago because the wind they created was just too much. I love beans but i only break my bean hiatus when i go abroad and its part of an all you eat breakfast buffet. I then have some and hope to time the wind to happen when i am swimming so thst i get a little extra propulsion in the water.
