You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
To the dog owners of this forum - is anyone else interested in the human-dog bond? I'm looking into how our psychological functioning affects our dogs for my MSc, if you're also interested and want to be part of some new and interesting research I'd really appreciate it if you fill in my questionnaire:
It's entirely anonymous. There's an email address if you want more info or want to know your results. Thanks so much if you decide to do it 🙂

Tis is very interesting, I am convinced my dogs behave depending on my wifes mood.
I’ll give it a go for what it’s worth. Not sure my puppy can detect my mood. Just spent 50 mins trying to get him in after letting him out for a wee. Just wanted me to chase him round the soggy garden in the rain and wind. Didn’t pick up on the increasing frustration in my voice! Oh well I’ll laugh about it in the morning I’m sure. Maybe he’ll develop a higher level of emotional intelligence once he’s grown up a bit.

Reminds me of the super anxious guy on super-vet talking about his dog ‘I don’t know why he’s so anxious’.

See also parents and kids, interesting nature/nurture area for research.
Sorry, cynic alert - first post from a new user?
Not looked at the survey as I don't have a dog.

I'm no Barbara Woodhouse, but that sounds like an awesome doggie game! Next time, after a bit of recalling just go back in the house and shut the door. He'll be scratting to get back in quick enough*
*Or maybe digging up the lawn or dog idiocy. 😁
That's just a puppy wanting to play that hasn't learned what human moods me yet. I've found it takes until the "teenage" phase for mood responsiveness to appear.

You're right it is an awesome doggie game and didn't help at all. It occurred out of desperation after leaving him to his own devices for 20 mins with no sign of wanting to come back in even after some shaking of a treat bag. And I didn't catch him. No chance...ended up leaving him to his own devices again for a further 20 or so minutes whilst going through my pre-going to bed routine which he normally accompanies me on, before he decided it was time to go to bed. Oh well that's puppies for you. All good fun in the end. No different to thousands of parents having a Mexican stand off with their kids at bed time.

That's my take on it. Expect he's just entering his teenage years now so will start to act like a typical teenager ever the coming months I'm expecting.
Interesting concept though. Heard and read alot about how dogs have saved humans from mental health problems, but not really considered how humans might affect a dogs mood. I know friends who's dogs come over and snuggle in if they are crying, so they are intelligent enough to see when a human is upset and try to console them. Not considered if a dogs mental health could be affected by human behaviour though - other than through abuse.
Thanks so much to everyone that has done it - and also for the comments and feedback, your support is much appreciated! Anyone else who's got 5-10 mins to spare and owns a doggo feel free to do it but it's entirely optional 🙂
As you came back with thanks and a follow up, I'll do it.
Now, what sort of bike do you ride? 🤣
... or did you do a Google search for forums about dog and got a hit here. 🤔 That wouldn't be so surprising!
edit - unfortunately I RTFM and our dog isn't quite old enough to qualify.
We share extremely close bonds with our dogs: it may therefore be plausible that some of our psychological characteristics could have an effect on their behaviour.
This is already well known to be the case. You could save yourself some time on this one...
Hi, I actually do cycle! My partner is really into his cycling and I did 1600 miles last summer and really got into it, I'm not into all the equipment and technical stuff but I have a basic road bike and love it 😁
And yes there is a lot of research on the human dog bond but little research on the effect of the role of owner psychological characteristics on dog behaviour - hence I am exploring new territory!
My dog is non binary so I cannot complete the questionnaire.
